Frustrating game. The game turned bad mid way through first half when a sure foot thrower rolled double 1's on a GFI leaving the ball unprotected in middle of the field. Making the GFI would probably have lead to a TD and possible a 1-1 draw.
The Dragons have a very tough draw this season. Promoted from Regionals with TR170 or so they feel a little threatened by their opponents this year (chaos, CD, 2 undead, necro and liz, all around 200TR) so the gameplan for the season is survival and the result showed this.
The Dragons dont have enough strength or guard to really threaten an undead cage, so the tried to wait for an error to lead to an opportunity on the ball carried and when the Dragons got that (a 1 dice block on ball carrier) it lead to a skull and Dragons player KO'd. Other than that the Wrestlers played a steady one dimensional roll down the field game. Perhaps a little boring but certainly effective.
3 points - #5 Junkyard Dog - MA8 gives the Wrestlers an angle that most undead teams lack. 6 blocks and a TD, good all round performance.
2 points - #6 Classy Freddy Blassie - block tacle wight - pressured my blodes all day long.
1 point - #11 British Bulldog - 4 DP fouls and no send off. Forced the elves to avoid any time on the ground.”
“The game got underway with the Deadmen winning the toss and electing to kick off. The Dragons recieved and immediately put a rush down the right wing. GNW playing man off from the start, avoiding as much contact as possible and using the agility of the elves to leave a buffer between themselves and the shambling hordes. The first turn for the Deadmen saw a complete lack of knockdowns. The DP's almost had brain implosions. running around aimlessly until they found a patch of grass that looked like it had blood stains on it. CBF knew that with the deadmens limited shambling ability, they could be caught out by a elfish switcheroo so he left himself open in the middle of the pitch. The deadmen put as many of themselves inbetween the ball and the open recievers as possible, though intentionaly leaving a few open to facilitate the expected 2 turn TD.
But GnW had other plans as he dodged away from the undead and made pretty formations with his elflings in the grass. Kinda felt like the shit team against the Harlem Globetrotters, it was all switcheroos, dummys and feints. Adelteth Held back out of the reaches of the deadmen. Turn 2 for the Deadmen saw, at long last a foul (KO) and a few knockdowns. All our fast players were hanging around the fast players from the Dragons, leaving a few Zombies and both the Mummies to slowly force Adelteth to do something with his ball. Eventualy.
The Dragons swung into action for turn 3. Oraneer pummeled DDV with a block that put him out for the rest of the game, first blood to the Dragons. Neshihar was open and calling for the ball as Adelteth sprang forward evading a tackler and pushing forward to find a open coridoor to pass through. This was his undoing as he fell over gfi to try and avoid allowing Junkyard the intercept attempt. Over he went, dropping the ball at the feet of a happy looking zombie.
JYD, Unmarked, lept into action and gathered up the ball, seeking refuge behind the hulking form of Andre in midfield with RR dodging away from his opponent to lend cover from behind. The reigning SILVER BOOT winner then sprung into action, launching himself from a invisible top rope to come down hard with his elbow onto the back of Adelteth, Hurting him bad enough that he wouldnt be returning for the rest of the game. JYD then used his speed to steer clear and stall for as long as he could. He survived 2 1D blitzes and a few dodges to step calmly over the line on T7.
A perfect D then saw paid to any plans the elves had, they retreated well into their own half, deciding that a bit of passing practice was in order instead. So ended the half. Deadmen 1, Dragons 0
Second half, Deadmen recieved and fielded 2 rookie Ghouls. Eddy Guero recieved and passed off for a skillup to Gorilla Monsoon, who needed the TD for his skill up. Despite another turn of no POWS, a cage was formed around the ball carrier. Oh i forgot, there was 1 POW. Classy Freddy Blassie Blitzed the Dragons Danger elf Toxteth, Laying waste to his Beautiful face with a fist of cleaving. RIP! Luckily for the Elves, their best player was Apothecaried on the spot and carried on with nary a twitter.
The elves seemed to ahve lost the heart for a fight however and played a strange half on half off game to try and slow the Undead advance, without ever really threatening the ball carrier. Choosing to protect themselves instead for future rounds. Still, their numbers where slowly wittled away, including another foul on Toxteth, who this time was removed, unconscious to the KO bin.
There was only one blip on the march to the TD as Oraneer again produced a pressure blow, 1d Blitzing Ravishing Rick Rude and leaving him senseless on the floor of the dugout.
He was a real handful with blodge and sidestep until Giant Baba asserted his AITHORITY and sent him on a one way trip to BH'sville.
Coach Maul decided it was getting boring and score on t14 to give the elveses a chance for a consolation score and us maybe some fresh meat thats not spread out all over the table :P
Wasnt to be though with GnW pulling back again out of my reach and the game ended quickly with some more elvish band practice.
2 nil the Deadmen triumph.
Thanks for the Game GnW
* Crowd favourite And all round good looking and swell zombie Ricky Romero was awarded the MVP. AGAIN. taking his tally to 6. Obviously women on that panel. He's now one handy Zombie.
Twahnlows:
3 points - #3 "Swift Foot" Oraneer - Speed, agility, blodgey sidesteppyness, and good hits. He took both my 'good' ghouls off the pitch single handedly and was a constant harrassing figure until Baba said "Hi this is my hand" and atomic dropped a kiloton fist onto his ear.
2 points - #16 Toxteth Ulthuan - Ag5 ma 7 and Blodge saw him perhaps weigh more on my mind than his actions justified, but you cant ignore that combo. if he had have been used a little more forcefuly, things could have been tighter. I did kill* the bastard though didn I eh!
1 point - #1 Adelteth "Strongarm" Elileir - was removed halfway through the first half, but really he did more in that time than all the other elves that I had left to chose from did in the rest of the game. He has a great skill set including Surefeet. He was extremely unlucky to fall over gfi in the fist half, if he hadnt have, we prolly still would have won :P but it would have been closer.
*Fixed by the doc.
PS. the fuck? did I write all that?”
