#12 Karbunkle II – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#12 Karbunkle II – Smashed Knee (NI)
The Lightnings lost the coin flip and kicked off, and the match quickly separated into two separate battles. One deep in the Atei half, as the Lightnings attempted to steal the ball from the dodging Atei thrower, and one a short distance into the Lightnings' half, as Atei secured a beachhead from which to launch their scoring attack. The Lightnings fluffed several chances to secure the ball from Atei thanks to a combination of poor dodging on their part and good combat skills on Atei's part. Atei took thier time, but eventually scored the touchdown.

The second half opened with Dangerous Beans, the Lightnings' new thrower, fluffing a relatively simple pass, handing possession to Atei. From there, the game proceeded much as it had in the first half, with the Lightnings unsuccessfully harrying Atei, who for their part simply held the Lightnings off until they scored late on.

The game was particularly frustrating for the Lightnings as their run of poor injury luck continued, this time leaving Karbunkle with a career-ending injury. The team's apothecary could have helped, but was off buying a hot dog at the time, and so was too late to prevent the injury being aggravated. The Lightnings have, in general, been suffering an average of one forced-retirement calibre injury per game for some time now, which puts the team's finances and bench under severe pressure. The earnings from this game will not cover Karbunkle's replacement, and so for the next match the Lightnings will have to start with no substitutes.
