This is my first negative game report ever, hopefully my last. After a series of pretty lucky armor rolls in turn 7 of the first half and the beginning of my first turn in the second I had four of his players in the KO box and his treeman surrounded. I figured I'd give him a little boot to the head and see if I could get him off the pitch.

The next message I get is Seppuku asking what kind of satisfaction I get out of destroying other people's teams (he still had his apoth at this point after the stun result foul). I should also mention that I did a crowd push earlier in the second half--I'm such a bad bad man.

All this is well and good, I told him I probably couldn't change his mind but I saw this as a strategy and that the game was by no means decided (the score was tied at that point and all his injuries had the potential of coming back in and all). What's done is done--I even encouraged him to comment about it here, but I certainly wasn't going to (at that point). The game progressed, he got most of his players back and managed to even the score at 2-2.

I stalled a couple turns for my last touchdown, took available blocks (but no fouls since I had the ball well protected and he wasn't even trying for it). And then in turn 8 (after I kick the ball to him, expecting 3 blocks a blitz and game over) he decides to . . . (wait for it). Foul one of my players!

I figured maybe he didn't know about the spp awards, so I asked him--"You do know that fouls don't get you spp, right?" Seppeku said he did know!

I foul when I think it's strategic, and don't mind playing people who foul or crowd push (getting sent into the stands is a risk you take with your players close to the sidelines). I know there's a difference of opinion on what's "appropriate" and I'm not trying to spark that debate again--but if you are going to take a stance on something then stick to it. Don't complain about having your Treeman fouled in an undecided game and then commit a foul when the outcome is very much decided.

1. anyone who's played me knows i don't foul, unless fouled.
2. if my oppo has 7 players on the field, and i'm obviously a far better coach than him, i wouldn't think i'd need to foul.
3. game outcome was certain. there was plenty of time for his obviously coming 3rd, with no chance of a reply from me.
4. surrounded my tree deliberately, it didn't just happen.

Facts and corrections outta the way, i just think that given the circumstances, and prior fair play on both sides, it was uneccessary, unrequired and ungentlemanly. I know it's blood-bowl, but i think attempts to maim players/teams for no reason (this case not quite at that level, but similar philosophy) are ridiculous. There are players i talk to who won't play "dirty" players again, and i do the same. I think for the sake of just playing with a little consideration it would result in everybody being willing to play everybody, rather than situations developing where games are turned down, due to a fear of uncalled for injuries, deaths & team retirements. Player deaths/SI's/niggles are always gonna happen, as in one of my earlier games tonight against Fletch, but there's no need imho to seek them out. Ask Fletch if i "played" for the cas, i'm sure he'd say it was just unlucky dice.

At the end of the day, BF900 thinks it was a strategically necessary foul late in the game, I don't. I made one attempt at revenge, a bit of the old "what goes around.." And why is this noteworthy? I've been fouled early on before, and it made sense, get the big guy off the pitch, easier to win. For the reasons noted above, this wasn't a similar situation. My "stance" is i would agree with early fouls (though i don't do it) to make a game easier to win, but late-game fouls, with a win guaranteed, vast numerical superiority, and far better coaching can only be seen as very harsh, and some would say vindictive. This is by no means as bad an example as i've experienced, but as a fairly new coach, learning the game, i see little advantage in this style of play, and certainly not the more extreme examples. Surely the odd bit of spp and cash from the one game played like this would be outweighed by playing that coach many times, as you'd both be comfortable knowing each other wasn't going to make plays for injuries..... Just a thought.
