“Warpstone Open Qualifier opening round

Buccaneers prevail and move on

The Buccaneers last night took on the Puddefjor Pirates and moved on to the next round of the warpstone. The Bucs cruised the second half to secure the 2-1 victory and came out of the game in good shape. There were no injuries to report and the team is in good spirits.

The opeining kick off sent off a frenzy of pent up excitment as both fans got the ref.

The first half saw the execution of the elves right off the bat as they move down the field with speed and precision and easily scored in 3 turns. The Bucs could not contain them, which is a growing weakness of the Buccaneers defense, the ability to control elves and their quick strike ability.
The Buccaneers received the kick off and proceeded to cage up and move down the field in a brutal ground attack. Jorgagan opened up the lower half of the field on 1/4 with a spectacular Blitzing Multi-Block that sent TWO pirates to the BH box. He then wheeled back into the field on 1/5 and got another Elf in the back for a SI-MNG. The Buc faithful were rocking at this point. The Pirates were knocked back as their numbers quickly started to diminish. They fell back on Defense and looked for an opening in the Bucs ground attack. One of the Elf blitzers dodged into the teeth of the attack and delivered a spectacular blitz and took Garcia down. (2BD Bucs choice), but the Turnover was recovered by "Iceman" Westbrook. The following turn the Pirates sent in another blitzer and blew "Iceman" up as he was posing for the fans thinking it was a walk in TD, (2BD Bucs choice) the Pirates bust the cage again and send Iceman crashing to the ground. BUT once again due to numbers the Pirates could not capitalize on the Turnover and Garcia picked up the ball and delivered a pass to Hillard for the tieing score on 1/8.

The second half and the Pirates are reduced to 7 men and looking grim. They Blitz off the LOS on the opening kickoff, showing some spunk and a winners attitude that they would not give up. BUT they could not get the ball as it was to deep and the Bucs fall back and cover the ball and start their punishing ground attack. In the first 3 turns the Bucs punish the Pirates and reduce their squad to 4 men and the game was over. The Bucs spend the last 5 turns marching down the field un contested and go in on 2/8 for the game winner.

It was just not in the cards for the Pirates this night. They got 3 turnovers on 2BD Bucs choice but could never get the turnover. That Multi Blitz from Jorg set the tempo of the game and when he got 3 CAS in 2 turns the wind seemed to leave the pirates sails. With the Ref Got in the first half "Butt Kicker" was able to lay the lumber and finished off the pirates.

So off the second round the Buccaneers go and we will have to wait and see how they perform against some Chaos Dwarves with a bad disposition.
