“Survived a massive scare - got wiped out in the first half - only to throw away the chance of victory by making a needless hand off instead of scoring with Conquer.

The first half was a nightmare. My fouls were inept - a single KO, the troll - including a +6 foul on the danger player Cabezacubo Brian that failed to break armour. I kept hitting pushes when I needed pows, and my players paid the price of being left in front of their nastier opponents.

In contrast, Rafadavila was knocking my players over at will, barely missing a pow for the entire half as well as two injuries and two KOs with his fouls, and I finished the half with just 4 or 5 players on the field and the apothecary used. The wet weather kept the game scoreless, fortunately for me. I even nearly stole the lead with an unlikely long bomb but the catch got dropped after Conquer had run through tackle zones, grabbed the ball from under an opponent, and accurately made the pass all without any help.

Rafadavila's desire to do damage turned out to be his own undoing in the 2nd half as his good dice dried up. First, he tried a single dice multiblock that had to be rerolled, then a turnover on another single dice block. Exposed, I stole the ball, it was Darkillers turn to lose players to knock outs, and the game looked competitive again. Then, a few turns later, Rafa hit 2 double skulls - one on a reroll of a push when he had players spare to make my life difficult and the other when he'd got no rerolls left. I was hitting skulls too, as well as snake eyes, but I had more rerolls and more players to recover position. In the end, I should have scored, having the ball and plenty of space, but opting to hand off to a less experienced beastman - foolish given not just the weather but the number of bad rolls both players made all game.

Very lucky to have survived this game, but very stupid to have drawn it.”
