Lustrian Challenge Qualifier round 1.

Cheese Ninjas proceed after a hard-fought OT win against Ogres! This game turned out to be a lot harder than expected. My prediction, concurring with Emphasy's in the predictions thread, was that this would be a cake-walk for the Ninjas. It was not. Coach Bluemi handled his Ogres well and gave us a run for our money. I must have played this one wrong somehow, just looking at TS, CR and luck this shouldn't have gone to OT. I'll be damned if I can spot where I went wrong though.

In the end we go into round two with no injuries, which is lucky considering all the 3d MB blocks we suffered.

Handicaps were palmed coin and illegal drugs (made a Goblin AG4). Wenkteam chose to receive, and immediately left their Ogre ball-carrier open for an easy 2d blitz on the first turn after some Bonehead failures. The Ninjas swooped in, and had the ball on a GR by T2. Here the Ninjas may have made a mistake, by placing the ball-carrier in a semi-cage by the sideline. Wenkteam had a nice T3, using Multiblock to cancel sidestep with good effect and pressuring the sideline hard with all their ST5 Guard. The Ninjas were forced to make some ninja moves to get out, which failed and lost the ball.

(If the GR had run away with the ball by himself in T2 instead, the Ninjas would not have been locked down on the side like that, but on the other hand that would probably have allowed the Ogres to 3d blitz him on their T3.)

The rest of the half was a scramble for the ball near the LOS, as both teams kept knocking it free but failing to secure it. ST5 MB was taking its toll on the Ninjas, but Wenkteam still couldn't move upfield, while the ball would never bounce free for the Ninjas to steal away. Finally in T8, the Ogres made their last chance TTM play, a brilliant success for 0-1! It was basically a one-turn score: pick-up, hand-off, TTM from the LOS.

The Ninjas then failed to OTS back, as a mistake in setup caused the RO to Frenzy into 2d against. So 0-1 at half-time, but with no serious CAS and all Skaven KOs back in play. Could still go either way!

The Ninjas scored 1-1 without much trouble in T5 of second half, disposing of the AG4 Goblin on the way. The following Ogre drive was much similar to their first half drive, with the ball coming free a lot but both teams failing to secure it. The important difference was that Wenkteam failed their TTM play this time, so on to OT.

The Ninjas were still at 11 players and Wenkteam had no RR left for OT, so even when the Ogres got to receive, they were clearly disadvantaged. The drive shaped up much like the previous ones, and this time (finally!) the ball bounced free for the Ninjas to secure. Once that happened, there was no way for Wenkteam to get it back and the Ninjas could stall out the 2-1 win.

GG Bluemi, you put up a good fight, see you around.

#4 Res – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#4 Res – Smashed Knee (NI)
My first Major Match (IIRC), and what a match it was:

Handicaps were Palmed Coin (was handy but not the killer) and Illegal Drugs, which resulted in a Ag4 Gobbo (right what i needed).

Due to a failed bonehead, my ballcarrier was standing quite in the open on turn one. I lost the ball, but thanks to some Multiple Blocks i was able to pin half of the rats down next to the line. Some struggling later the Ag4 gobbo got hold of the ball and was thrown to score on T8.

MadTias hopes for a oneturner were crushed by the rat ogre who couldnt do his second 2d block properly.

2nd Half, was a pretty easy drive of the rats who were able to score on turn 5 and Bhing my Ag4 gobbo.
My attempts to score once more were not successful, and there we were: Overtime!
6 RR for the Ninjas, 0 for the Wenk Team.

I was lucky enough to recieve but coulnt get the ball out of my half, even though, i did some damage. Then a failed dodge of my ag4 ogre who was carriing the ball gave the ninjas the opportunity to grab the ball and run to the final Touchdown.

graz again, MadTias and Good Luck in the rest of this Qualifier (and hopefully beyond.
