#14 Berlifitzing – Broken Ribs (MNG)
NWFL Regular Season III - Part 1A
Week 5 (Week 3 was a rain-out forfeited in the Crusaders favor)

Another crazy and exciting game for the Crusaders. I knew the Blasters came to bash, and I was not wrong. I opted to receive hoping I could hold off scoring long enough to prevent the orcs a chance to score in the 1st half and was eventually successful. However, it looked doubtful when the Blasters got a Blitz! on the first kickoff and immeadiately removed a zombie. After some scrambling, Schedoni got the ball to Loup-Garou du Gevaudan and he took off downfield. Then I got a series of fortunate events and was able to stall for a few turns. I think I stalled one turn too long, either that or I missed an opening in my protection because the Blasters got through (with a few dodges and some GFIs) and put a 2-die blitz on the wolf that put him on the ground. Ball bounced out of bounds and was thrown back in near Schedoni. Some pushing ensued, and Schedoni got a shot at the ball. He had to dodge and pickup in traffic, but he pulled it successfully and took off. The Blasters made one last attempt to stop Schedoni but he pushed the orc away and stepped into the endzone. The last kickoff of the half was a pitch invasion that prevented the orcs from scoring.

Second half saw Ambrosio the Mad Monk taking a break in the dugout (earlier KO). He never did return to the game. However, the Crusaders got a Blitz! on the kickoff and made the most of it. A gutsy move by Loup-Ulfhednar BH a Black Orc and opened a way for the team to move towards the ball. Pin Ball, Jr. failed to pick up the ball on the first try and never got another shot. Schedoni and Ulfhednar covered the ball while the rest of the team moved in to assist. I got some very good rolls and kept the orcs from picking it up. Then in a heroic attempt, Schedoni saw another opening and moved into 2 TZs to pick up the ball and hand off to a waiting Ulfhednar. He ran into the endzone for the second score. The final few turns were spent hitting one another but no permanent damage was done and the game ended.

Thanks for the fun game Jasfmpgh, and good luck the rest of the season. You played a stout defense, but this was one of those games where the luck meter actually tells the true story - both of my scores came from using an AG 4 player to pick up the ball in traffic and get away with it. The blocking on both sides was solid, but my armor was holding up better for a change. I have a feeling we'll meet again this season. Looking forward to the rematch if it happens.

Skills (1):
Ulfhednar Hexenverr - Tackle (only my 2nd Star Player ever and the first that didn't age on the skill roll)
