Watford Hornhits 0 - 2 Burningham City

Ermmm, yeh

166/161 Chaos Dwarf vs 190/183 Chaos

The Watford Hornhits gave it a real shot in front of the 55,000 crowd, but Burningham City came out fired up, steeled after a season in the Championship, and eager to get back there.

A major spat between Martin Taylor and Churcho Benitez emerged before kick off, as both refused to be on the pitch with the other (Greatest was the sole handicap).

Burningham won the toss, and elected to recieve. Driving hard up the pitch, they scored in 4 turns, aided by the Hornhits troll being too stupid to do anything for the first 3 turns of the match.

The Hornhits now had 5 turns to reply. They drove hard, but City refused to buckle, and, with a turn remaining, none of the hornhits were in range to score, while City's claws and strength had begun to dent the hornhits, the Apothecary being called to action to recover a niggle that Stephen Carr inflicted on Nigel Gibbs. With the Apothecary otherwise engaged, Kevin Phillips took the time to put a boot in on Luther Blissett, badly hurting the Bull Centaur, and putting him out of the game.

The second half opened in much the same manner as the second drive of the first, but a double skull on Ross Jenkins' opening blitz, having used the turn's RR on a GFI, left City with options to counter. Counter they did, with Liam Ridgewell claiming his first Cas of the match as he niggled Kenny Jackett, and Kevin Phillips booting the fallen Centaur into the BH box. The carnage continued next turn, with Wilf Rostron being carted off the field with a bad injury as well, leaving 8 Hornhits players to face the wrath of a full squad of Burningham players.

By now, both coaches had recognised the inevitability of what was going to happen, the only question that remained, was how many Hornhits were going to end up in the way when it did.

Ridgewell claimed his second victim in Turn 5, Badly Hurting John Barnes. The ball was got loose as well during this turn, but before it could be secured, a misclick burnt a RR, and a double skull appeared.

However, Watford were so far on the back foot, and the relevant block so far from the ball, that they were unable to capitalise. Finally, just to add insult to injury, Colin Doyle fractured Alec Chamberlin's leg, leaving him with a niggling injury as well, while Carr made a completion to Ridgewell, gathering a skill, and leaving a very simple job for Ridgewell to do the same.

Burningham City begin the season with an emphatic win

GG Wotfud, well done for fighting the seemingly inevitable, and GL for the rest of the season (yeh, I know I've put a dent in that one ;-))
