Luck started out against us, but then Lady Luck remembered she's a lady and changed sides, back to where she belongs. May she stay with us forever!

We received the opening kickoff, only it was a super-duper kick landing in the bottom corner of the endzone. Set up a wall of blockers on the left side (away from ball, but that's where I set up before the kick, so had to try to see it through), all that was left was to get the ball to the catcher and start racing for the score. However, my thrower fumbled the ball into the sidelines, and it rebounded out into the middle of the field, where all the humans and none of the amazons remained. Easy score in 2 turns for hte humans.

Second kick landed more conveniently, and we set up our wall again on the left side. The humans tried to close off our path to the endzone, but an amazon catcher is stronger than a human catcher, so that final block proved good for the lucky ladies and Cherrie returned to her scoring ways, waving to the fans and setting up several photo ops with visiting dignitaries (who leaned politically on the ref to declare her game MVP).

The humans were unable to do anything with the ball the rest of the half, and we set up for the second half. The ladies were down two BH, but they were on unskilled linewomen and we had replacements ready and waiting to step up. The Ravens accepted the kick and tried to set up a wedge in the center, hoping to follow the bruising knuckles of their ogre to plow a path through the big-guy-less ladies. However, several turns in a row of bone-headedness left the ladies in control with their multiple guarding blitzers, each holding hands and keeping the humans boxed in. Eventually the Sweet Things got a lucky shot on the ball carrier who'd come too close to the LOS, and the ball bounced around into the waiting hands of Sugah, who sprinted her way for what would be the clinching score.

The Ravens had plenty of time to tie the game back up, and set up their wedge formation again. This time, the Ogre passed his bonehead roll. Unfortunately, he rolled skull-skull/pow against a blodging blitzer, so ended the Ravens turn prematurely. The ladies took full advantage to completely box in the humans, inflicting some serious damage to the team in the form of two niggling SI's. (Michael Hayes died when trying to catch up to Sugah, sprinting so hard that when he tripped he broke his neck. The apothecary had already used up all his bandages earlier, so the crowd hushed in homage.) The ladies eventually forced the ball to cough up, but the thrower was on the far side of the pitch covering a blitzing human catcher, leaving only untrained linewomen to try to pick up the ball and throw it to themselves for the score.

I think we'll institute mandatory passing training, at a rudimentary level, to all Sweet Things in the future.

Cherrie's return to scoring has spurred the fans to return once again. Here's to the future sweetness!
