“WIL Season XXII

We've been promoted to the premiership despite losing our playoff game... nice to see our bribes working for once!!

Game 1 sees us up against Cyrus-Havoc's orcs, and it looks like a tough nut to crack. Every blitzer has at a very minimum guard + MB, and every black orc has at least block + guard.. yuck!

We kick first and get stuck in for a good old fashioned punchfest up and down the line, with neither team scoring more than a stun in the first few turns. T4 and we get our first chance on the ball after a number of blocks to make space - a 2d blitz with a reroll and we've POWed over their thrower! The ball is in a tackle zone but a wight can still snatch it up! They get 4 dice of blocks on him but can't knock him over, though they do BH a random skelly (regens) on the far side of the pitch. We rush him towards their endzone, withstanding a 1d blitz on T6 before stalling a turn in relative safety and then taking the lead on T7.

We get one turn each before half time (well.. 2 turns for us with a blitz), scoring a KO each (both wake up), plus we use up their apo saving a black orc from a -AV injury.

We receive for the 2nd half and cage the ball loosely behind our front line, but by T2 they have KO'd a rookie ghoul and KILLED a skelly (no regen), getting a nice numbers advantage. T3 we go for broke and rush our AGI4 ghoul with the ball through their lines, screening their blitzers from getting at him, but unfortunately a black orc can just about reach him and gets a POW for a stun.. argh!

We try and set up a crowdpush on their blodge blitzer, as he's in a dangerous spot.. but use up a reroll on a GFI and then throw down a skull... not looking good now! They pass the ball to the blodger and he runs far into our half. They stall down the clock while removing more and more of our players from the pitch. Even our mummies are getting beaten up here! On T7 when they foul uber-mummy Ephisteles II we decide enough is enough and unleash some zombies. A wrestler -2db blocks a black orc to the ground and our DP rushes forwards to niggle him with a foul!

They make it 1-1 immediately afterwards, but we're going to claim this one as a moral victory :P
