“Once again, Kondor brought a team to challenge the Vampires of Imsogoth. It would be the first time that he coached dark elves against a coven. He had put dark elf teams against every other race in the old world. Now he would tick the box completing dark elf portion of the challenge he had set for himself.
As before, he agreed that the game would be played a midnight on the vampire’s home field, but he had a trick up his sleeve. A half hour before game time, he met with a haggard old man near the stadium gate.
The old codger accepted one hundred gold pieces and with a nod opened a bag of his own. Producing black velvet he pulled the draw string while muttering an incantation. A dozen glowflies came forth and slowly increased in brightness. In fact, not only did they increase in brightness, but they began emitting heat. Soon they were over the stadium and sill increasing in intensity and heat.
Soon the crowd came to the stadium and wondered at the magic at hand. Not only had the unnatural light illuminated the stadium, but the heat produced rivaled a mid-day game in Khemri. The stadium turf had been scorched and the mud below was now baked solid. This would add a challenge to both teams, but surely the vampires would suffer more. The heat was an unexpected bonus.
The dark elves walked into the heat and light and noticeably grimaced. They too were no fans of illumination. However, as the Vampires took the field, they almost seemed to whither. Without a doubt it took a toll on them throughout the match.
Once again, the fans were disappointed by the lack of blood. Most of the blood shed came from vampires feasting on thralls. Meanwhile, the dark elves put on an elfball show scoring 3 times. It was simply a high powered offense that the vampires could not keep up with.
Kondor walked into Pentalarc’s office to collect the winnings. Before he could blink, the Vampire had him against the wall fangs bare ready to send Kondor into the great abyss.
“Last word?” he asked.
“If I don’t walk out this door, my team will burn this office down. It is dawn outside and we both die. Lets make a deal.” Replied Kondor.
Pentalarc’s brow furrowed but he did not let go. “Explain the offer.”
Kondor smiled. “We both live. I take only half of the agreed upon amount, and you allow me to bring my teams for training matches from time to time against your squads.”
Pentalarc returned the smile. “The terms are…agreeable.” ”
