#5 Abram – Broken Jaw (MNG)
Coach wiffly played a really excellent game.

The rats were dodgier, sturdier, and bashier than they looked, at first, and had a really great first half, taking out my ball-skink and my blitzer by turn 3. They ended up with only 3 KOs–– from a foul, a failed dodge, and a skink block–– the entire saurus and krox brigade could only manage a lone stun. Wiffly positioned his players excellently, and I ended up taking a lot a risks, and made the TD on turn 8 by the skin of my teeth.

However, the 0/3 KO rolls meant that the rats were forced to field Fezglitch on Turn 8, which wasted him for the game.

The second half makes the game worth a watch all by itself. I positioned in an attempt to force a quick score, but the rats smacked us around and outflanked us, looking as though they would attempt a long stall. Not wanting to see that, the Lizards rushed ahead, in an attempt to screen against the Skaven thrower. However, that's when things began to go wonky.

The Rat-Ogre (who had been powing a blodger on every block throughout the first half) suddenly decided that THAT was the moment to roll skulls. This gave the lizards a shot at the ball. However, in an attempt to seal the game, the lizards attempted a saurus pick-up (75%), but failed, and the bounce went in a very bad direction, against the side-line. The rats started foaming at the mouth and swarmed in! In the next turn, the LIZARDS decide to roll double skulls, wasting their last reroll. Deciding to forgo any more saurus blocks, a skink attempted pick-up, scattered the ball out, with the throw-in flying about 10 spaces toward our end-zone, at the feet of a gutter-runner. However the Gutter-Runner fumbled a pass the next turn, and curiously decided against RRing it, which let us blitz a Krox into position around it. However, the lizards needed to mark the Rat-Ogre to secure their TZs on the ball, and the skink who was assigned the job decided to fall down, instead. But the Rat-Ogre then decided he hadn't screwed things up enough, and felt much to angry the next turn to blitz off the Krox anyway, even with a RR (loner passed).
Again, it seemed like the lizards had their chance! Saurus swarmed in around the ball, but the skinks still couldn't manage a pick-up, with another fabulously awful bounce. Now, with only a very blitzable skink on the ball, and a nearby GR close to the EZ, the only tough question for the skaven seemed to be whether to stall or not. But AGAIN Nuffle's wrath came down on the skaven, with the pick-up rolling a 1, then rerolled to a 1. In a few turns, the lizards secured the ball, and dashed towards the skaven endzone.

A game of ups and downs and lefts and rights. Tough for both sides. In the end, I was just lucky to come in 2nd place in the bad-dice race!

I look forward to the rematch.

cheers
