“This game was close at first. I got one of the Mummies out early, though he Regen'd. Prez made me drop several lateral plays before I got control, really had to play a lot of directional games to get his men out of the way, despite getting four guys off the pitch.
They all came back for T8, and he got my Ogre Badly Hurt, but the second half was rough on him. He muffed the initial pickup and had to use his Ghouls to cage deep in his own backfield. For a second it looked like he'd win the scrum over the ball, but he had to use all his men doing it, and the situation just turned to total garbage, where my Guard gave me an unfair advantage. So he broke out into the open and paid for it with a turnover that I walked in on Turn 16.
Prez complained about his luck the whole time, but I know what a dicing looks like, and this wasn't one: it was a tough, close 12-turn game where most of the important stuff worked and mass Guard proved more effective than anti-skills and Loner proved bad (though Tolerant Megastar had one bad Stupid fail and didn't activate a few times). We both had some moderate fails: I snaked or otherwise whiffed more than one Team Re-Roll and got a guy ejected failing a foul on T1, and that turn 9 pickup failure and the early reserving of his Mummy certainly did Prez no favors. He also had one short turn in the second half, and I open-powed on a key 2d into Blodge: in a close game like this, a little tiny whiff of luck can swing the deal pretty hard. The last few turns were not very dramatic, but until then it was just good fun football.”
