#4 "Nasty" Nate – Fractured Arm (MNG)
#8 Harold Black – Smashed Ankle (-MA)
I had two choices: sit around on Gamefinder all night and not get a match, or take the risk of playing down 620k TV. I had seen Coriolanus several times looking for matches; since they were elves, I figured I had half a chance of containing them for a tie, if I played smartly. Four players with tackle, two fast players with hitting power, steal his rerolls, a wizard in case he breaks free, and lastly a chainsaw, as an insurance policy.

Speaking of that, I'm tired of hearing the argument of how teams should be built. If we keep pumping out the same cookie cutter teams, this game is going to die a very boring death. I will take tackle over mighty blow nine times out of ten, because it's more useful when playing teams which may have dodge.

"What do I care? I only play bash teams."

Sure you do. But what is it every bash team lusts after? A double roll so they may give a vital player blodge, making them that much more difficult to take down. With tackle you remove part of this threat, as well as making any coach think twice about having to make a dodge roll to get away from the player with tackle.

Create the team the way you enjoy playing, not the way all these chowder-heads tell you it should be.

Now, back to the game...

I took away their early attempt to score, and even managed to pop the ball loose, but could not cover the ball as the elves came in and recollected it. The elves dodged into scoring distance, and even with a blitz, reroll, and a successful lightning bolt, could not stop their witch elf from running in the late TD. On my last turn of the half I crippled Harold Black, all in an attempt to GFI for a meaningless pass.

In three minutes this entire match had gone to shit.

The rest of this match was me, losing my nerve, and making poor plays. We've all been there, and once frustrations set in, you've defeated yourself. My last chance long shot to recover the ball and score crashed and burned when a 2d blitz came up "Push Back" and "Skull." All I could do was position my team to try and prevent the elves from going coast-to-coast on their last turn, so I started hitting their remaining players, including a chainsaw block against legend Young Martius. I didn't mean to kill him, I just couldn't have an AG5 player standing within hand-off distance of the ball. That basic strategy against elves: control who they can get the ball to.

Not happy at all about how this match turned out. This will serve as a reminder about keeping a level head when things go horrifically wrong.

This last part is for harvestmouse because I know he likes to read match reports.

Interesting how both coaches feel that the dice were against them in a match which played out pretty evenly.

#10 Young Martius – Dead (RIP)
#17 Xavier Bluesnake – Dead (RIP)
Firstly, I knew this was a hard matchup, a necro team with loads and loads of tackle is harder to play then if they got tackle on only the one guy that keeps blitzing you with MB. TV 600 would not mean, easy but rather hard.

I did not say it, but I hated the buys with RRs stolen, I cant do passing game, nor leap steal the ball on low RRs, and I have a build that allows the latter, and I like to do the former (even if it is risky). I expected wizard, Igor and something, but Chef... was just bad luck. Or rather good strategy from my opponent.

He let me start with the ball, but stole 3 RRs from me, so I sat there with one. I started bashing the line, doing blitzes on his DP (to avoid the foul after my score, as he had 12 players with the chainsaw), I kept failing my hits, I played extremely conservatively on dodges (ie not dodging or not rr-ing failed dodges) But the first half nightmare continued, at one time he had all my four blitzers KOd, he had killed one player, and got a kill on another that I used apo on, for a patchup.

That meant I was down 6 of my 11 players, in the end. I had stayed well back with my ball carrier (no pressure from the opponent on him) but finally I had to do a running play to get a shot at scoring, I got the ball carrier taken out ---> KO (last blitzer out) midfield, managed to switch the ball to a WE and get into scoring distance. Got that one sacked as well, but the Armour roll went my way. At that point my oppo really could not score, first half, despite numerical advantage (no elf long pass play for a necro).

My Legend lineman did a 1D blitz to push one opponent away from the ball, at my turn 8, my WE did a jumpup move, backwards one square to pick up the ball then TD again, for a total of 2 GFIs without RR (I burned my only one earlier).

My opponent smacked and fouled, and I got two KO rolls, but had two blitzers out still next half. Also, his best player got SI´d on a GFI to pass!

So, 3 players out, a bit more RRs and a chainsaw on the field making it 8 vs 11. At this point we both started doing small mistakes, my opponent were affected by the turnaround (TD from me, and best player SId for him), but he clearly should have had the opportunity to score for a tie.

Lots of back and fourth on the midfield and middle side field.

Then came the two final mistakes during the turns 7-8, my opponent blitzed my WE with a chainsaw, his turn 7, instead of doing a 2D blitz on my guy with a tacklezone on the ball carrier. This means fail for him on 1 on the blitz, and on 1-2 on the dodge after the blitz, if either had failed I would have been safe, as he was zero RR at the time. Both rolls avoided the turnover. but it left me open to counter move, one tacklezone on the carrier, and a GFI 2D blitz on the carrier my last turn. That one worked, ball then bounced to make it almost impossible to score.

My mistake? I moved my Legendary lineman next to the Chainsaw guy, to make a 2D block with the WE on him before my gfi blitz on the ball carrier, noticed it was 1D (I forgot a guard,I think) and canceled.

Now, after the blitz I won, and its my opponents last turn, he bashes me everywhere for SPPs. No turnover, then he does the final move, the chainsaw block, and gets a third CAS, this one a kill as well (as the two before).

My dream team, is wrecked. Time to stop playing BB? Complain about the dice? Well, the dice fucked me over both first and second half, on CAS and armour breaks, but the simple truth is that while he did not have to do that Chainsaw, (its the equivalent of a last turn foul) I really did not need to stand there, and only did it to get SPPs on the WE from what I though was going to be a 2D last turn block I think. Not play at 5am, or some such perhaps, if I should learn anything from this?

All, in all it makes for a good story.

Edit, nah you remember different things, if I got lucky it was that my armour held on the WE (av7) instead of stun, so I somehow won the first half despite getting all those players sent off the field, if you got lucky it was all those armour breaks first half (leading to two kills and 4 blitzers KO´d) and stealing all 3 RRs with the chef. Your bad luck (and avoidable mistake) was getting -MV on the best player on your team, the dedicated ball carrier), then you just did not bash me out as much next half (or I would have had no team left).

Im guessing we both think its bad luck to get three deaths in a row on the dice, right?

If you had carried the ball on the Block+Dodge Mv8 wolf second half, I probably could not have stopped you. Using the Weight, and blitzing with the chainsaw is what prevented a tie (if scoring late), or a possible 2-1 win for either of us depending on when you had scored the equalizer.

What, Harvestmouse reading my reports??? Say it is not so!
