This game wasn't too spectacular til turn 14. Dlock hired Morg and a tree, who didn't do too much.
He scored early after I had a 1die on the ball which RRd into a skull, then I scored turn 8. I KOd his main dancer a few times, he fouled my new tail off. Second half I advance and roll some bad dice, screwing up my position and leaving me to choose between an unsafe (because of wizard) stall or a safe score. I chose the stall, and the fireball hit 2/3 players (inc the BC), the pass was good on the wizard turn, and Dlock was free to win the game 2-1.
Turn 15, I moved my sacker as far back as he could go to threaten turn 16, and tried the 1 die on the ball with the rookie dancer, which RRd into a skull again. Between my sacker's jump up and sidestep, he threatened anyone in scoring range even if prone, so Dlock scored turn 15.
The highlight of the game was the following. His OT defence consisted of Morg and the tree on the sides, and a lino in the middle. Without a catcher I'd need 3 pushes. I set up for a oneturn using my tree's grab on the lino. At first, I set up in the tree's corner, then thought "but he has stand firm, so I should keep Morg as a backup plan". Some spectator thought he was funny, and threw a rock at the lino I wanted to grab! Fortunately, I had the contingency plan of chainpushing Morg. As several spactators were already leaving, considering the game over, I managed to do just that; making 3 chainpushes on Morg to secure the 2-2 TD. (though I did screw up by making the first blitz a 1die instead of a 2die, luckily I rolled that push). Phew!
Winning the overtime toss with 1 RR and 10 players left let me score fairly easily, using AG5 to counter the sudden downpour.
edit:
Thanks for the kind comments, and I'm very happy to have supplied your most exciting game here. =)
In reply, I have a few notes about sidestep:
- with 2 sidesteppers and a stand firm, it would have been much harder, but not entirely impossible I think. I had a grab tree to blitz one of the sidesteppers in with. Once he was in, I could completely surround him with my players, so that he would not be allowed to use sidestep.
- In overtime, I specifically chose to carry the ball with sidestep wardancer to make a sideline cage where he could not be pushed into the crowd.”
