#9 Coconut – Broken Neck (-AG)
Fun and tense game. Got the ball on defense in turn 2 thanks to a failed catch and moved it forward after a GFI during a blitz against my ball carrier failed. I was one player up and had the position, so I got overly confident and left an easy (3+) 1D blitz against my ball carrier (I don't think I could've avoided it, you need Guard around your BC against Slann) to get some extra blocks and fouls, and he got the ball to the ground. 2 failed 2D blockless blocks ended my next turn prematurely, and after some nice leaping trick the frogs got the ball and passed it forward. The ball got to the ground again, but the slann were able to score in turn 8 nevertheless.

Half 2 began with the apes being 2 players up, although a banned player in the first turn evened things out. At this time there had been around 50 blocks and 4 fouls by my team, but only 2 opposing players were out from a total of 11 (in my case 2 banned and 1 CAS'ed player from a total of 13).

The second half was pretty tense, but I got a slight man advantage and finally was able to score. At the end, 75 blocks for the apes!! But the mistake in the first half and the lack of CASes and KOs (and a tightly played slann squad) lead to a fair tie. Good game!

    1. A.P.E., Season 1, Round 5

Against the high-TV Ape team*, the Frogs were behind 130 TV, so took a RR - by far too many for the first half, and likewise not nearly enough for the second.

(* 4 doubles for a total of 4 Guards + Leader, & no retirements. And while a Guard Line-chimp was handed -Ag, after this game a Gorilla doubled for Block!)

SVD chose to receive, and Turn 2 pushed pass after using a RR - and the ball was on the ground, and a dogfight started. A-to-Z recovered and, after a Frog RR to dodge led to a failed GFI for the 2d Wrestle blitz, caged up around their own 9 yard line to end Turn 3. SVD scrambled to maintain position as A-to-Z pushed across the LoS, but Turn 5 a 1D blitz came through, and a Turn later they recovered and passed back near the goal line. A positioning errour left the St 2 AV 7 Catcher open for a blitz after a failed dodge, and he was Stunned and the only Frog in scoring range marked, but Ag 3 came through for the Turn 8 score, 1-0.

Also, A-to-Z had fouled repeatedly but to no lasting effect in the first half, losing their gimped -MA linechimp in the process. The Turn 8 kickoff would have been meaningless except for a KO'd Frog lino who did not wake up, which, despite a previous Turn 7 -AG'd Ape Guard linechimp, gave the deep-bench Apes a distinct numbers advantage.

Altho' up 11 Apes v. 9 Frogs for the 2nd half kick, A-to-Z tried another foul Turn 1 on a line-frog - and got another linechimp banned, evening the odds a bit. Until Turn 5 the Frogs kept them from crossing the LoS as positioning held but 1d blitzes failed. Then, on the Frog's Turn 5, a 1d succeeded (w/ a RR for the Leap) and put the ball on the ground, but the 2+ dodge for the pickup failed with another Frog Catcher ready to run, and the position had been given up, and the last RR used in the effort. Turn 6 the Apes had pushed up to the 9, and then to the 6, seeing more and more Frogs out of the game as, with no RR, the Slann could not make their leaping magic work. Turn 7 SVD made a desperate -2D which found Both-down on the wrestler, but the Apes' Turn 16 Blitz, 2+ pickup and 2+ handoff all succeeded (and without one of the 3 RR they had remaining!) - tie game, and the T16 kick didn't change that, 1-1.
