“Second match in the ICS is an away match against Frostheim, and one extra point is ut on this match. On paper, this looks like a breeze, or at least as Close to one as anything can be in a well-developed league like this one. No really good bashers on their team, and even though they have a really good ballcarriers in star bull centaur Varg Vikernes and a good blitzer in star hobgoblin Maniac, they are one blocker down and only at 11 players. Worst thing is that all blockers are good at tackling my skinks. Anyway, speed and power is on my side, and the fact that he hires star player Hthark is unlikely to be enough. We also have the fans on our side, and gets to start with the ball.
The Frostheimers make an onside kick, and we can start the ball with Mobster as the ballcarrier. We advance slowly on our right side, but are in no hurry. We shuffle back and forth midfield along the LOS for a while, and the most interesting thing that happens is that Claws is fouled and stunned by their dirty player without the ref caring at all. Game play gradually drifts towards our left sideline, and both teams dance around to avoid a massive close-up brawl, and we are getting short on time and make little progress. We try to send Breaker into scoring position on our extreme right, but Varg Vikernes gets to the spot and KO's Breaker. Then Hotorc fails in his attempt to get Claws down, and suddenly we can utilise a small advantage on the left flank. Booster gets his first cas of the day when he sends Death off badly hurt, and Hthark and Euronimus are pushed away as well, and our skinks are through and in a scoring position, and Claws and Fraternizer are screening. The Frostheimers work effectively, though, to save the situation, and manage to surround our skinks with two bull centaurs and two chaos dwarves. Claws gets confused by this, but Booster manages to blitz away one of the chaos dwarves, but Mobster can't make the dodges necessary to run past Varg Vikernes for the goal, and the half ends with Booster being KO'd and Jungle Warrior fouled and stunned.
Both Booster and Warrior are back for the second half, and we can afford to leave Warrior in the reserves, in case we need him for a quick score at the end of the half. Frostheim are now two cahos dwarves short but can still muster 11 players, due to them hiring Hthark. We didn't do well in the first half, and 0-0 is not a good position to be in wen Frostheim starts With the ball. I'm not happy and give the guys their new instructions. This half we will be more aggresive and wade into the brawls instead of avoiding them. Let's see if the Frostheimers can stand up to that!
At least the guys were listening, cause when we start the half, they are up and at it even before the Frostheimer's realise the half has started. Booster gets his second cas of the day when he blitzes Dead and sends him off badly hurt. This allows us to bring two skinks, Diver and Breaker, and two saurii, Fraternizer and Booster, to the "landing zone" of the kick, while the rest of the team holds down the LOS. When the ball comes down, however, Diver can't catch it and it bounces to neutral ground between Booster and the Frostheim LOS. Desperate Frostheimers at the LOS push our LOS back, and Vikernes manages to rescue the ball, but has to pull back behind his three hobgoblins. We keep up the pressure in front of Vikernes, by KO'ing Maniac, and also manages to shore up Our LOS, but then Idler fails his Block on the far left flank, and the flank is almost unprotected! Frostheim immediately seizes on the chance, and Vikernes sprints for the hole and slips through, while Necrobutcher and Euronimus create a makeshift screen. Vikernes cannot be hit directly, so the best we can do is to create some space for our skinks. This allows Diver to get into position, but we are forced to use Claws as a blitzer to take down Necrobutcher (stunned) so that he can help Diver in containing Vikernes. Mobster also tries to og to assistance, but fails to dodge away from Eurominus. Thus, the situation is stil unstable, but then Hthark fails to break away from Peeler's tackle, and we get some breathing space. We use it well, and topples most of the FRostheimer players, and on the right flank, Fraternizer KO's another hobgoblin, journeyman Clearshield, making the Count 11 scavengers vs 8 Frostheimers. Close to the ball, Idler's blitz fails, but Claws bodytackles Vikernes and brings him down. The ball is loose! The only Frostheimer close to the ball is Robert Hotorc, so we let Wiggler mark him down to divetackle him if he tries to move. Diver is also covering the ball. Things are looking brighter, and numbers are starting to tell. However, Frostheim is not out of the fight yet. Eurominus managres to stun Diver, and Hotorc KO's Wiggler, and they also manages to free up Vikernes and put him to the task of guarding the ball. A catastrophic failure by Peeler to block Euronimus fails, and suddenly the Frostheimers has regained the initiative. They chainpush Protector onto the ball, bouncing into the hands of Euronimus, and have most of the Sacavengers Close to the ball down, but do not dare to move Euronimus away from the protection of his peers. We cannot free up players who can blitz Euronimus directly, but can instead use Fraternizer to blitz Faust and chainpush Euronimus into the reach of Mobster. Using a rookie skink to block a rookie chaos dwarf is a bit of a gamble, but With help from Idler, Claws and Breaker, Mobster does his part and brings Euronimus down. Unfortunately for the Frostheimers, the ball then bounces to Fraternizer, who bats it over his head and to the Frostheim side of the Field. This leaves all bull centaurs and chaos dwarves trapped on the wrong side of our saurii, and Diver can pick it up and run like crazy towards the right side and the Frostheim goal line. Only experienced blocker King Diamond can get to Diver, and only if he can manage to dodge away from Blue Brewer! He tries, of course, but Brwer brings him down and that is that. Rookie skink Diver can run in his first career TD and the Scavengers will win this match, unless a riot gives the Frostheimers a chance to score. No such luck, and the ensuing short, but fierce scuffle on the LOS ends with Breaker and Hotorc KO'd, but nothing more exciting than that.
Well defended by the Frostheimers, and they also had a chance to win it in the second half, despite the blitz. However, numbers started to tell and they were simply worn down by the stronger and more aggresive saurii. A Close Call, however, and we got little to show for the effort except for the win. Albion is ahead though, and need only one win in the third round to take the cup away.
