#6 Wutan – Smashed Knee (NI)
Lustrian Challenge X Qualifier XIII Round 2:
The Skaven team had a group of impressive Gutter Runners. Mr Pink had 137 SPP, including 10 MA, leap, Guard, Side-Step. Mr Green had 165 SPP, including 10 MA, Diving Tackle, Leap, Side Step. Mr Blonde III had 5 AG, wrestle and horns and Mr Orange II had wrestle and Strip ball. Their storm vermin included a Claw + MB + Tackler. In addition, our opponents had a Wizard.

We received and did our best to surround the ball carrier with Guards on either side of our cage to protect vs. Leaping gutter runners. On turn 2, Manzoo decided to fireball our cage. It was very effective. Our 8 MA Ghoul who we were grooming to be our next ball-carrier, Wutan, was seriously injured with a niggling injury, our ball-carrier was stunned, and a zombie was KOed.

The gutter runners were easily about to scoop up the loose ball and secure it. We were able to trail back sufficiently to force a quick score. Suddenly, we were down 1-0 three turns in.

Our guys started hitting hard. we KOed a couple linerats, BH one, and BH Mr Green (apothed). As we tried to dodge away, our ball carrier tripped exposing the ball. Thankfully, the 5 AG Gutter Runner also fell on a 3+ dodge with the ball on the ground, allowing us to recover. We failed the pick-up which left the ball still exposed. This time, the 5 AG gutter runner failed the 2+ pick-up. Our 4 Ag wight was able to scoop it up and complete a quick pass to Skeleton Steve-o who was the only player we could put in scoring range (on T7).

Our opponents managed a -2BD hit against but rolled a skull. Thankfully Steve-o made the two GFIs and scored. Rolling a 1 on the pick-up attempt foiled any attempted OTT.

We attempted a 4+ dodge into 2 TZs to get a 2BD surf-able hit but failed the dodge (with auto RR). The Gutter Runner attempted to stall. We were able to double back and Pow-him. While attmpting to put another player in the TZ of the ball, our ball-carrier, Zuzag, managed to BH himself on a failed GFI. Predictably, the GR was able to scoop up the ball and score, going up 2-1 with only a few turns left, and us missing our two ball-carrier Ghouls.

We tried to push forward as we were locking down most of the GRs, but we dropped the 2+ catch. Thankfully, their GR failed his GFI while attempting to get near the ball. We were able to pick it up and secure it. With 3/4 of a cage protected, the best we could do is attempt a foul on the exposed GR, Mr Blonde III, hoping for a stun to avoid a horns + wrestle block. We managed to BH him! It was a big risk, as our only foul attempt could come from a Ghoul and we were low on potential ball carriers. We were easily able to clear a path and made the GFI for the TD to tie the game and force OT.

It was 10 vs 9 for us in OT. But we lost the toss and had to kick. We were not optimistic. Again, the GR was fairly well protected but we took our shot at a 4+ auto-RR dodge to get 2 BD vs. the ball carrier GR. This time, we didn't miss, knocking him down. We were able to loop around with a dodge and pick up the loose ball. Which was crucial as GRs usually score when loose balls are left on the ground.

The Skaven GR managed to strip the ball but failed the 3+ dodge to try and secure it. It was a tight mess by the sidelines, we put as many bodies as we could in the area. The GR tried to clear a path but managed to fail the 3+ dodge onto the ball, falling, the ball bounced around a bit before being caught by our Ghoul Mykan. At that point it was nearly game over, we were able to clear a path. 2 GRs were prone and we were able to surf the 3rd.

After some dodging the GR was able to attempt a -2BD hit but failed the GFI to make the block. We walked in for the game-winning TD.
