#17 Edward Deepshield – Dead (RIP)
This was a game of rubbish dice, for both of us. The real difference between us, and the reason the score is what is was, is that, generally speaking, my bad dice didn't end in disaster, whereas pedro_fgomes' bad dice often left the ball exposed when I was in a position to get hold of it.

The game started slowly, with the orcs taking a deep defence and waiting for the elves to come to them. So I took the opportunity to get in a couple of lazy passes while I plodded downfield like a bunch of dwarves, forcing the orcs to come forward. But even when they did, it was hard for me to find a gap in the defence, and orcs being orcs, they stayed on the pitch even when I knocked them over. So tough was it to break through, it took me until turn 5 to score - and this was against an underpowered orc team (none of the BOBs or the troll had any skills yet).

Ugroth Bolgrot brought on his chainsaw after the reset so I kept the tree away from the front line, just in case. But I needn't have worried as his very first blitz resulted in him killing himself - which was a relief, but kind of harsh on pedro_fgomes. After that, a failed catch from the orcs left the ball sitting on the floor in front of three orcs. After a bit of scrabbling and a few more rubbish dice rolls, my thrower's nerves of steel allowed me to pick it up and lob it in for a cheeky score. A consolation kill on the final turn probably didn't cheer up pedro_fgomes as much as it might in the circumstances.

The second half started with me three men down and I struggled to contain the orcs. A badly hurt against his MA7 blitzed was a nice bonus (it's not often you get to break orc armour) but it was on the far side of the field from the action, and sure enough, the orcs ran it in moments later.

After that it was just mopping up. A blitz, or a couple of good blocks, or some bad dice from me could have kept the orcs in the game, but there was no let-up in pedro_fgomes' bad dice. I scored quickly to keep the two-score lead, and then it was five turns of turnovers before I managed to keep hold of the ball long enough to hammer a final nail in the coffin on the last turn.

pedro_fgomes said he was still learning how to defend against a dodgy team, but actually his defence was pretty solid. If anything it was his offence that let him down - not just because of terrible dice, although that didn't help - but because he didn't seem to be sure of how he was going to play his team. It is possible for orcs to have a passing game, but only once you have a couple of reliable targets and FeH2 aren't quite there yet. Especially against a team featuring so many journeymen and no wardancers, a better tactic would have been to run it, using the ST4 BOBs as cover. The failed passes led to two of my TDs.

Still, it was a good tough game against an opponent who had to deal with a lot of bad luck. I look forward to a rematch.
