Thank you Stikki for an exciting game and a great match report! Luckily the dice went my way in the situations when they mattered most. The blizzard certainly made things tricky and we both had to adjust our long pass game. See you next time with better weather!

#2 Easypeasy Lemonsqueezy – Groin Strain (MNG)
#3 Midwinter Coldsnap – Smashed Hip (-MA)
#8 Impatience Nopostyet – Dead (RIP)
Less of a game, more of a SPLAT!

There you are, happily cruising along and then suddenly, "Iceberg, dead ahead!" You try and steer away, but with a fatal inevitability the ship and the iceberg continue moving towards each other, and then there's a long, slow, painful grinding noise, and after that there can only be one outcome...

Yes, you guessed it, this was a disaster of titanic proportions. So much went wrong it's hard to remember it all, and before I present my litany of woe, I'll just say that when everything goes wrong, it's easy to forget that your opponent may still have played an excellent game and would have outperformed you even if the luck had been somewhat more balanced. So congrats, wizkid on a well played game, a commanding performance and a comfortable win.

So... it began with a blizzard. I hate blizzard. It doesn't matter that it affects both teams equally, I'm a passing obsessive and I love throwing long bombs. That's my whole strategy. Seriously, that's all I can do. And going for it. I do a lot of that as well.

Well, despite the stupid weather both teams got off to a fairly solid start, the high elves scoring quickly and then the wood elves replying - although I took an unusually long time going about it.

On the high elves' following drive I suffered my first casualty - a death, which my apo kindly changed to a death. It was my ST4 tackler as well, so that was a bit of a blow. The next blow came almost straight away afterwards when my MB tackling wardancer was seriously injured. So two players down, no tackle. Oh, and the tree failed his take root at the very start of both of the high elves' first two offensive drives - although to be fair, he wasn't much better when he was mobile, having nothing at all to show for his efforts.

Meanwhile, Light and Shadow were having a great game, scoring whenever they got the ball and never failing their armour rolls, so that the wood elves were always outnumbered - especially while the tree was so busy standing still.

At some point in the second half (I think when I had just pulled it back to 2-2) the blizzard went away, allowing the high elves to get their own passing game going and giving them the lead once again. And then finally, finally, I got to set up on offence without a blizzard.

I got both catchers in position, one of them with plenty of support, and had the ball safely back ready for the long bomb. All I had to do was clear one of the defenders out the way. A push back would be enough, but it was a 1-dice and I rolled a skull, giving the high elves the chance to have a go at the thrower. That's when my one and only piece of good luck happened, and the high elf catcher messed up his own 1-dice block, knocking himself over and leaving the thrower free.

So now it would be a pass to a loner, but that was all that was on offer, so I made a 2-dice block to free him up and double skulled it. Which allowed the high elf catcher another go at my thrower, and this time he made sure of it, seriously injuring him in the process.

And on my final turn, with no hope of stopping the score, all I could really do was leap my wardancer away from the sidelines to prevent him from being surfed. So he failed the leap and badly hurt himself.

So not my finest hour - not by a long way. A very poor performance indeed. So bad, in fact, that I was even outperformed in the passing game, and that really doesn't happen very often. And for my next game I'm up to five journeymen, a rookie wardancer and a rookie catcher and no tackle, and yet still with a rating of 1500K.

So that will be horrible.
