A good game, and challenging, although generally speaking it was a tale of crappy dice. Lots of turnovers on both sides, and LOTS of really useless blocking, especially in the second half where the two teams settled into a game of pushing and shoving, but not much else.

When we weren't standing around looking vague, both teams were up to their usual elvish tricks - I was chucking long passes and The_Demon was dodging around like tackle zones had never been invented.

I scored on the opening drive, even though I was on defence. The_Demon then did the same thing at the top of the second half. In between, we both managed proper offensive scores as well, and so it all came down to the second half of the second half.

For a while it looked like Born To Live Forever had it in the bag, with their AG5 wardancer off on the sidelines and miles away from the rest of the action. But wood elves are fast - especially when they actually pass their gfi rolls and I was able to manage a 2-dice blitz while he was just outside the endzone.

Sadly, it turned out to be a 2-dice shove, even with a reroll, and although that part of the field had suddenly become a bit busy, Forever ELF was just one small leap away from the score...

...or not. Another soft block kept him in place, and then I finally found the POW on my dice. The ball bounced into the hands of another one of The_Demon's players, but I managed a second knock-over in the same turn, and this time the ball bounced out of play, to be thrown back conveniently close to my thrower, who wasted no time in getting it to a catcher downfield who had the tree for protection.

More weak blocking followed, and although the ball was stripped free, Born To ELF Forever then failed his own gfi, leaving me free to run in and pick up, then hand off for the score.

And to sum up The_Demon's terrible luck today, his final turn chance to score (with his MA9 catcher) was ruined with a perfect D!

So an unexpected win. Neither team really showed themselves in their best light today, but at least we were both equally rubbish and the game managed to remain a fairly even contest. And no one died (more than once).
