Season 35, Game 2 - OoC

U-Dub caught off guard by TCU's "Pain Train" offense

Second game of the season and TCU plays U-Dub, a program they last met in the BCS Championship Semi-Finals of Season 33. TCU chooses to receive first and play their "Pain Train"-offense, resulting in four Elfskies off the field after 4 turns, amongst those three guards. The outnumbered U-Dub defense still manages to sack the ball carrier QB Justin Rogers twice, sending him to the K.O.-box with the second hit. But towards of the end of the half, 2nd QB Mike Collins steps up and hands over the ball to Vernon Scott who runs into safety towards the endzone. Tension rises for a second when Parker Workman both downs a 3-dice-block, but the next Elven dodge snakes and it is 1-0 for halftime (some sneaky rats greased U-Dubs shoes for their turn 8, so they didn't even try for the OTTD).

2nd half sees the Rats kick deep and swarm onto the Elfskies half of the field, but U-Dub QB Brock Huard throws a laser beam to his own receiver with no chance for pass blocker Taye Barber to intercept. But the Elven receiver finds no safe haven and gets the ball stripped by The Horned One Itself. Justin Roger runs back to pick up to lose ball and safe throws it deep to aforementioned pass blocker Taye Barber, who catches and runs it in for the 2-0 lead.
The Elves lose two turns and for a moment control over the ball as well, but then they finally find a flawless turn and score, 2-1 and down to 7 Elfskies. Horned Rats send their Gutter Runners deep, but keep the ball block-safe on their side of the pitch. Elfskies try to lay some pressure by man-marking both passer and receivers, but QB Justin Rogers dodges free and throws the ball after a beautiful pump fake over Taye Barber to Vernon Scott for his second touchdown and the final scoreboard of 3-1.

Although TCU had more Double Skulls (at least three by my count, plus a triple both down on the R'Ogre) the deciding dice rolls have been two Snakes on Elfskies' dodges, that - if successful - could have potentially turned around two drives. So in the end TCU celebrates having the better timing of their bad luck than the Elfskies.
