#4 Zazug – Broken Neck (-AG)
Crown Of Sand XI: Qualifier V - Round 3

The Nandorins were a bit beat up entering the match, which worked in our favour. We received in the first half, and they got a perfect D. They played tough D and early on we struggled to get any pitch removals or make progress offensively. We slowly advanced 1-2 squares per turn forward (usually just 1). We eventually fouled a skill-less lineman with our DP, as we were desperate for a removal, we got a cas.

As T7 approached, we had to push forward to get into range. We left a ghoul off to the side in scoring range and advanced our cage, marking the elves with lots of guard, but knowing we'd have to give up some hits. The elves did well to chain our ball carrier back one square which would have required 2 GFI and likely a dodge. We did a bit of hitting but couldn't open up a path for him, so we had to go with the werewolf 3+ auto-RR dodge for 2 dice to free up the ghoul receier, a 2+ gfi to hand-off to a 3+ catch with a RR. It succeeded and we were up 1-0.

We placed 3 SF on the LOS to prevent a OTT, but a throw a rock MNG one of our golems (no regen). Up 1-0 at the half and with an 11 vs 10 number advantage, we got a perfect D to start the second half. The elves snake eyed the pickup and we applied pressure. They were able to peel back and recover, but along the way, our DP landed 2 more fouls, causing casualties on both of them. Suddenly the numbers were greatly in our favour and then our block dice decided to catch up, MB started to do its thing and we got a number of elvish removals.

We had a 2 BD shot at the ball, but needed a knockdown first, didn't get it, so opted to blitz a catcher and recover. Eventually, on T7, we got 2 dice on the ball, knocked it free, and tried to lock up as well as we could, the elves managed a nice 2 BD hit, a few dodges, a ball pickup and short pass, but snake eyed the 2+ catch in the end-zone to tie it.

Some very tough dice for the elves at several critical moments. Our DP got some clutch removals when we needed them and we managed to come away with the win.

Cheers for the game and good luck in the final :)
