#9 Munia – Gouged Eye (MNG)
Without a doubt, I must say that it has been one of the most spectacular games I have ever played.

Thank you very much for your comment.

What a great game! It had a little bit of everything and a lot of skilful play (from both sides, I would modestly add).

My first two turns almost settled things straight away, as I BH two of the Union elves, threw a nice long bomb, scored a TD, and at the same time ignislluna failed a gfi and burned two rerolls. It was all looking very one-sided, in fact.

But then, on the Union opening drive, that wretch of a dark elf, Hubris Rakarth (who has no business playing for nice elves, btw) took out two of my players in return. Which is fair enough, you might say, but then ignislluna had two players spare and I didn't, so it was 9 vs 11 for the rest of the game - except when I also had two in the KO box!

So the Union scored easily enough on their drive. For a while it looked as if ignislluna was going to stall out the half - which would not have been surprising, with the wood elves down to six and a rooted tree - but by throwing all my side-steppers and the diving tackler at the ball-carrier, I think I just managed to convince him to get the score in while he could.

And that allowed me to score again really quickly.

And that allowed ignislluna to score again really quickly.

So at the half it was 2-2. My KOs were back, so although I was still down two players, it didn't feel too bad. ignislluna had the advantage of numbers, but with no tacklers, he was pretty much relying on POWs for his blocking. Which is perhaps why he came out and scored quickly to start the second half, rather than hang around and try to wear me down with his numerical superiority. Or maybe, he just liked scoring a lot.

So anyway, at 4-4, and with only a single turn each to play, it was all going to be decided on the one-turn attempts...

ignislluna's was excellent. Despite my front line being a tree and two side-steppers, he managed to push my catcher all over the place until his own was the two yards further downfield he needed. He took the hand-off in a TZ, made the dodge and - with the help of a well-timed reroll - made all three go-for-its.

My own attempt was a lot less elegant, and a lot less successful. At least I made the long bomb, but then the tree wasn't able to push Hubris and simply succeeded in KOing him instead.

Still, I have to say it was an excellent game, against a skilful opponent, and when I come away with no injuries and passing stats of 5 for 63 (including two long bombs directly into the endzone for scores), who cares that I lost? Not me, certainly.

I could do this all day.
