What an amazing game this was. GotrekSlayer probably doesn't think so because his dice were terrible, especially in the second half, but even if the scores had been reversed - and they so-easily could have been - it would still have been a great game.

I was playing up and used the inducements cash to bolster my numbers with a couple of mercs. And I really wasn't expecting too much. All I really wanted to do was get the thrower skilled up a second time, and with that in mind I went all out to double throw with him whenever I was on offence. And with extra players, I was even able to keep him off the field on defence, which was something I'm not really used to.

So I got in a quick score to get things going (with a risky, but successful, long bomb into the endzone), and then GotrekSlayer pulled one back without much effort two turns later. It was shaping up to be a nice high-scorer.

Then I muffed the downfield pass on my next drive, and this allowed the high elves to move into the lead after a slightly slower score, thanks to my defence of eleven wood elves and a pair of never-failing dice.

And just when I was settling down to finish out the half with a few quick passes, I got a quick snap and was able to get in a one-turner. I then set up for the second half, forgetting that GotrekSlayer still had a turn of offence. But with one of the high elf catchers having MA10 and AG5, I wasn't going to stop the score anyway...

...unless I rolled a blitz, which I did. It wasn't great, but it was just enough to mess up GotrekSlayer's plan and so I managed to keep things even as we went into the actual second half.

And in the second half, I continued my run of excellent dice, while GotrekSlayer rolled just the wrong thing at just the wrong time, failing an easy dodge and leaving the ball in the open, right in front of my AG5 catcher and right in front of the endzone.

So now I was in the lead, but was also down to nine men and there wasn't a whole lot I could do to stop the high elf surge which resulted in their third score. And I stayed with nine men for my next offensive drive as well, which would have made things kind of tricky if I hadn't rolled another quick snap and run in my second one-turner of the match.

Which left GotrekSlayer with three turns to go for the draw. It was tricky, and I played as good a defence as I could (which basically meant just putting his players in TZs and hoping for the best) but as had been the case all game, GotrekSlayer had no good dice when he needed them and he dropped the 2+ catch.

And with the game already won, I went for a final-turn fancy play, running a catcher into the endzone, dodging the thrower out of a TZ, picking up the ball in a TZ and then dodging out, and then failing something for about the first time when I wasn't able to find the 3+ I needed for the score.

But as compensation, the thrower picked up the MVP for the second game in a row and now has slightly grippier gloves to help him on his way.

I nearly didn't play this game because it was after midnight (on Halloween, no less) and I thought I ought to go to bed, but I'm so glad I did. I know it was a bit one-sided (okay, quite a lot one-sided) as far as the dice were concerned, but it was a really excellent game despite that. GotrekSlayer played a tough and well-thought out game and had I not been running my luck, would almost certainly have won it without much trouble. Still, I'm not complaining. It's my first win in a while, and Springforward is now 8 for 58 after just two games. Not bad for a noob without either strong arm or +AG.

Long may it last.
