When the Unicorns arrived like the magpie, hoping to poach an egg or two, the Eagles were yet to wake. As if waiting for the cock crow to signal the kick-off, new Übersreik starlet, life of the party and no stranger to the wee hours himself, Sean 'The Bolt' Bunting ran in an early touchdown.

A misstep by Coach Wilson allowed the Eagles to impose their physicality on the game. Before the half-time break, five Unicorns were being tended to by medics and their temporary Apothecary had exhausted all of their pills and potions. But his delight would soon be brought to an end as, deep into the second half, with blows traded across the field, Unicorns' man of the moment, Bunting, drove an elbow into the unprotected face of Davis, shattering his skull and ending a promising career. That might have been the start of a late resurgence but the Eagles were now shrieking and their players obeyed the call. The Unicorns were fortunate to only have veteran BJ Hill seriously hurt but numerous players were made to feel the wrath of the Carcasonne XI. With most players knocked out or stunned, Jari Mentula seemed certain to score but with so little pressure from the shattered Unicorns, he was able to hand-off to David Johnson, a trade from the Patriots in Season VII, who peacocked over the line at ease.

In addition to exhaustion caused by the late heatwave, Übersreik had just six to line up for the final drive. The Eagles will be tough to outfight this season with the strongest squad in the DLE. This, sadly for Übersreik, appeared to be a game which Carcasonne had already won in the beer halls and back rooms where their trades had been made.”
