BRUTAL HOME CLASH AS FLASHFURT DO THE DOUBLE

Since their previous meeting, Flashfurt had narrowly lost to the inconsistent Praag Grizzlies and the table-topping Erengrad Vikings. Visiting the Unicorns would really show if they could reverse their poor form. In contrast, the hosts bagged their first win versus the Grizzles and lost in a tight contest to the KFC North leading Marienburg Foxes.

It was clear from the start that the Übersreik team did not expect to challenge their rivals through skill or tactics; their strategy was to eliminate as many opposing players as possible. It was an approach that almost worked in their previous showdown.

Like a stint in prison, the best advice is to establish dominance by getting rid of the strongest, most influential inmate. Thomas Leboucher interpreted that maxim to blitz the star of the Universe, Uther Pendragon. Logan Woodside remembered the ball and got it into the hands of Giza, who was knocked down by Ahmed Fidalgo. The wily Flashfurt man then scored, just as he had already done so against the Unicorns.

Donald Stephenson got in on the act and removed Juan Thornhill and Barry Gryson injured Jeffery Simmons. Richard Lane showed his class as he blitzed Testa Vallin to score an equaliser.

The hand of Tzeentch appeared to sway the impetus from one side to the other as, first, Arthur Dent was sent to the medics by Miles Sanders, then BJ Hill injured Donnel Pumphrey, and Vallin just failed to score by tripping over the goal line right before half-time. Perine then injured the influential Gryson, Leboucher knocked out Pendragon once again, before being knocked out himself by Stephenson. Rafa Polanco tried to foul Carlos Torrosa but was red carded, Perine then injured her second opponent, BJ Hill, accounting for two of the Unicorns strongest players.

The advantage continued to switch from one side to the other; Ola Adeniyi knocked out Sanders; Ottmar Wirt sent Stephenson for a nap; Lane sacked Chris Dishman, to stop him from scoring. The Flashfurt player managed to recover the ball before being sacked again by Giza. Somehow, Dishman squirmed through the flying fists and flailing feet to grab the ball a third time and take it with him across the line.

Coach Arturidas will, once again, be counting his blessings after getting away with an undeserved victory against their rivals. Coach Wilson, rather than swearing revenge on Nuffle as he had done after their previous match, cast a more pensive figure. He will wonder why more opponents were not removed and rue an opportunity to show how his team have progressed under his guidance.
