#8 Nathaniel Cether – Seriously Hurt (MNG)
Tactical Takeaways-

1. I don't know how Leap works

From the very beginning I quickly discovered that I don't know much about Leap. I had a general concept that they were going to be able to get into my cage, so I needed to try and position with spacing to prevent the leaps, and to make sure I had guard in the cage corners, but in practice that was much trickier. My opponent was immediately in my cage, and I only just escaped. So...probably need to read up a bit more before I play Slann again. This is the first time I've played them, so it felt similar to the experience of playing against Vampires for the first time, just not ready.

2. Morg + Crazy AV and Injury Dice

A big part of why we were able to pull this one out was that we crushed in the removals. We were constantly ahead on numbers, and that gave more leniency to things like fouling or to have extra bodies to screen the cage. I was more deliberate this time with Morg to go after targets that I was likely to bring down, instead of the blodgers of last game.

3. Defensive Corner Positioning Failure

On the same topic of not understanding leap, I made had made a screen at one point on defense which I thought was resistant to leaping, but I left a clean corner open. I needed an extra body at that corner, and instead I had that player back too deep like a sweeper. It opened up a fairly easy 2+ leap, 2+ dodge to clear the screen and pull away. Always ask, what routes have I given the opponent to take: double screen there, back towards the tree and Morg, or at that weak corner?

4. Throw Teammate Range

I had a chance to sack the carrier with two different options, one was going to be a TTM blitz, after I got an assist that would've required 2 rushes. The other would've required a dodge. I opted to attempt to see if I could get the TTM into position. Rolled a 5 on the throw, but on the scatter the player actually landed on Morg. I had thought it would be better to throw at a shorter distance for the easier roll, but knowing that it likely is to scatter regardless, it may be better to always throw longer range to avoid the possible outcome of the thrown player landing on or near the thrower, almost like a fumble. Something to think about.

5. Fox Goes Endzone to Endzone

I've been excited about the fox, but in the last game I didn't ever get to really see what it was capable of because it got removed. I can definitely see the value of 2 foxes because of the likelihood it gets removed if it gets hit. MV 7 2+ dodge everywhere with dodge. That is a nasty piece, and got to see some of it's prowess this go around.
