“A good start to the season for the care-free lizards as they come out 2-0 winners from their 1st match!
Drawing a skilled opponent and both with rookie teams, the squad knew that discipline and luck would be required to get a win - so it proved.
The "Mantics" won the toss and elected to defend 1st half, a decision immediately vindicated by rolling a blitz! The ball was under pressure from the very 1st turn and my rerolls evaporated quickly. The Claws of the Werewolves were a constant injury threat to the Saurus' but the lizards kept fighting and managed a turn 8 score thanks to a lucky break involving multiple consecutive successful rolls (including a couple 4+'s).
In the 2nd the defence was stretched almost immediately and when a Ghoul runner made a break straight through the line, a score was looking likely. Some desperation defence from the skinks did enough to halt progress until a frenzied Werewolf failed a block to allow a shot on the ball-carrying Ghoul. With the carrier taken out, a skink picked up on the 2nd attempt and had the legs to dash down the pitch to seal victory!
Casualties did start coming during the 2nd half, but thankfully too late to affect the result.
A really fun game and with still no skills heading into game two, hopefully nuffle can provide more of the same until a Saurus learns block :)
Thanks!
P.S. We wish a long and happy retirement to Diana Jex who unfortunately suffered a catastrophic head injury during the game”
