#14 Larry III – Broken Ribs (MNG) #14 Larry III – Smashed Knee (NI)
“What a game! That deserves repeating... WHAT A GAME!!! Yes, it boiled down at the end to trading scores with our one-turners (although mine only got one whereas his got 4), but still it required a lot of concentration and strategy to punch open the holes needed to send the gutter through. Neither of us used our apo on the injury, as both happened early and we were leery about further blows, though none that needed attention were forthcoming. It was as if the medics also knew they were witnessing something special on the pitch, and their services would not be required. I think I saw mine drinking a beer at one point, so it's probably a good thing I didn't use him on Larry, else instead of an assistant coach he might've been even worse off!
But in a game which saw multiple perfect defenses for both sides, each team turned to what works best for it. In the case of my opponent, it was his multiple guarding rats (including one str 4 and a storm vermin with horns and claws, very nasty) punching holes for his super-elite gutter to use. Me, my team had much less developed all around, and yet more developed all around, as only one team member was without block, a fact which proved crucial in keeping his rookies in line. Combined with my squad of 4 elite gutters to switch roles at a moment's notice, I was able to spread the scoring around far more.
But in the end, the game was mine to lose, and I did. I screwed up in turn 7, doing an extra gfi to get an unneeded block for the chance at a cas, allowing him to steal the ball from before my feet and tie the game. Then, I had one chance to one-turn my own way to a victory, but Cheetah stumbled and fell just shy of the goalline.
The fans loved the game, I had great fun and didn't even notice the time passing, as both sides were invovled in serious strategizing, wondering what the opponent would do next and how would you counter it or turn it to your own advantage. Warp managed to pass his star player skill roll without aging, but alas, Flash threw out his shoulder on the last pass and developed a niggling shoulder rotator cuff injury. He'll remain with the team for now, but the coach is going to keep a real close eye on him--the first sign that all is not well for a game, he'll be given his severance check and given a clipboard instead of the ball. Until then, the four gutters ride again!
Did I mention it was a GREAT GAME?!?!”
