After many days of trying to dodge the awesome might and reputation of Carlton, the Arksters finally fronted up for their debut game in the SWL Premier League!

They were the clear favourites as Carlton's lineup was obviously still suffering the effects of the drastic cuts of last season ot meet their seld imposed salary cap. A run of forfeits to tie out last season had left a lot of our boys still lacking in match smarts. It was hoped that the experience and leadership of everyone's hero, Duke Snakefield, would pull them through.

A cautious start from Carlton on offence nevertheless saw an early score with a deft handball from the Captain ending in the able hands of 'Sleepy' Steve who ran it home.

On defence, Calrton were shaky but a desperate tackle from newcomer Paul Pacman sacked the Darkling Elf ball carrier and enabled the Duke to race through, snatching the ball without breaking his stride and tossing it effortlessly downfield to the waiting Steve once more.Touchdown number two, and the fans were ordering more beer as they settled in to enjoy what they came here thinking would be a blow out.

Again, Carlton were shaky on defence as the Vanguard managed a quick score before half time. The odds on favourites for the Title this season were beginning to show why they were so.

The second half began and the story was the same. It wasn't long before the Carlton defence broke once more before the equally broken elves (cheap shot) and they equalised.

Both the Duke and Sleepy were feeling the strain in trying to hold out against such a star studded team alone, and were sorely missing the fists of Davros who had been declared not fit to play mere seconds before the kickoff. The impossible task that these two men had in stopping this horde of evil alone proved too much for their mortal bodies in the end and they were both carried from the field with injuries, leaving Carlton's rookies to win the match by themselves...

They couldn't do it . Simple as that. Bloody lineman all of them and not even much Block to be had. No chance! :)

TWAHNLOW VOTES go to....

3 Points - Antarctic Gale
Frenzy can be a blessing and a curse, but they say to Dark Elves curses and blessing are one and the same. Lookit! He got the MVP too. I hate him even more...

2 Points - Hopp'n Mc'Cauldron
Despite being boneheaded from a night of bathing in blood the night before, Hopp'n number 1 managed a typically good game. Shook it off for the most part, and only succumbed when she wasn't particularly needed anyway. Bitch...

1 Point - Penguin
This little weed scored the winning touchdown, though it took him about fifteen turns to travel the last two squares. Being the Vanguard's lead scorer you'd think he'd be better at it?

After many days lost in the wilderness, the lads from Carlton United finally arrived at Snorriheim for their premiership opener just as a warpstorm blew over the stadium. A sweltering heat came with a touch of frost as weather conditions became blizzard-like on the kickoff!

The whistle blew and the Vanguard hit the field like they left it last season and played like muppets for the first five turns. The early drives were against them, but their positional play was haphazard and lacked direction. Deservedly 2-0 down at Turn 6 and with the Duke making them look like a bunch of jolly flings, they took check and went back to basics before it became an embarrassment. A stock standard try saw them back to 2-1 at the half with the hope that a better half lay ahead!

In the end, they scored a quick try to start the second half and managed to finally rumble the Duke off the field (but not until he'd put in a stellar game) and the catcher (Sleepy Steve) was decked hard enough to leave him in the ko bins for the rest of the game. A bunch of rookie linemen fought on valiantly, but it wasn't enough to stop the dancing elves from stalling for four turns before scoring the winning try (despicable!).

Apart from the Duke's sterling resistance, Stoney Dan had a match winner too - for which the Vanguard will remember him fondly!

Twahnlow Points

3pts: Duke Snakefield - Fought the lone fight and played brilliantly. Didn't fail anything and always managed to find pows on sidestepping elves.
2pts: 'Sleepy' Steve - Although ko'd for pretty much the entire second half, he did have a good first half, running in both touchdowns under pressure.
1pt: Paul 'Cleve' Pacman - Dropped Hopp'n just as the Vanguard looked set to make their first equaliser. Crucial point which saw Carlton United take advantage and get away to what looked like a winning 2-0 lead.
