“Fumbbl Cup QST Qualifier
Ramtut III showed up for the game, replacing the Robbers' superstar wolf who was away digging up old bones.
The Robbers received first, and started the game with the other wolf pushing two orcs into the crowd. Da Rippas switched over to protect the attacked flank and got the wolf down. The ball went to agile flesh golem Thief, who lumbered down the pitch towards the end zone while his teammates covered. Da Rippas got two blitzers on him, but Thief blitzed himself out with a little help from a wight, dodged free and went for it to score in the 5th turn. 1-0 Robbers.
Da Rippas felt certain that they could score in 4 turns, so set up a good cage and sent a receiver forward as usual. They had not counted with the might of Ramtut however. Ramtut immediately blitzed into the cage while lesser undead marked Da Rippas' receiver. Black orcs as well as the Troll fought to get Ramtut down, but he remained in the way, allowing the Robbers to secure the defense. Eventually the mighty mummy blitzed the ball carrier after a double dodge. Da Rippas had a slim chance to score anyway, involving several dodges and a long throw, but failed. Halftime 1-0 Robbers.
Da Rippas were undaunted in the 2nd half, feeling sure that even Ramtut could not prevent a score in 8 turns. The half started out badly, with only pushes on the line and a failed pickup by the thrower. The Robbers' wolf ran to pick up the loose ball, but fell over on a gfi. Da Rippas tried again and had better luck, securing the ball and bringing it upfield. Ramtut and some other undead got in the way and put such pressure on the ball that they could eventually pop it. It bounced into the clear, where the wolf could pick it up. Da Rippas cleared a path to blitz the wolf, but failed to get him down on a 2d re-rolled block. He got free and started a run for the endzone. Da Rippas blocked his first path down the flank, so he dodged free and ran down the middle. There luck caught up with him, as he failed another gfi.
The play swung quickly. Da Rippas cleared a blitzer who ran for the endzone, and thrower Rasch picked up the loose ball and threw it to him. The only undead player in blitz range of the ball at this point was a ST4 dodge zombie, marked by a black orc. The zombie dodged free and got the blitzer down. The blitzer got up and recovered the ball while his teammates marked potential threats. Again only the ST4 dodge zombie could reach the ball carrier. The zombie dodged free and stunned the blitzer! Da Rippas had only one more player able to reach the end zone in time, and he was marked by Ramtut. He made a desperate run for it, but it was too hard. The super zombie saved the day for the Robbers.
Well played soultoken, good luck in the tournament. Da Rippas have tried for the third and last time to qualify. Team captain Galak will now retire and make way for a new team to evolve. Until the next tournament...
