As the Old World is a hard place and any novelty is welcome (or whatever else might entertain) the Circus actually employed the poor drunkard as a professional drinker, he did beat most of his opponents in his elected and professional sport (even the odd dwarf or two).
In his new occupation things fare alright by him, he does not feel most of the blows and despite constant inebriation manages to give the odd good liver hook or use the odd bottle he finds to stun an opponent.
