Nobody remembers what Gibbs was known as before his days as a pirate but since then he mostly goes by Rapier. Why? Because he is a hustler of the dirtiest kind. He will challenge people to a duel, and make people bet on him. To lure his opponent into a false sense of security he would begin with a heavy cumbersome weapon and pretend he was struggling to use it. After a few times crossing swords he would take out his fine pointed thin rapier and dispatch of his opponents with ease. It was during one of his fights that Cutlass saw him and tried to persuade him to join. Gibbs agreed on one condition - he would get to fight Gorrim once all the bowl commotion was done, in order to see which was the ultimate way of taking life - his rapier or Gorrim's animal savagery.
