Aleksei Skoryna is the captain of Erengrad Whaling Company's first foray into Blood Bowl sponsorship, the Erengrad Whalers. A former whaling company harpoonist, he had been a Blood Bowl fan from his youth. . "Alek" as he is known among the team is the reason Whalers came about. Alek had been a Blood Bowl fan from his youth. When ever his and another whaling ship would come into port he would organize a game among the crews as a form of recreation.

After a harsh storm blew a professional Empire Blood Bowl team of course from Marienburg and landed them in Erengrad, Alek saw his chance. He contacted the team capatain and asked for a scrimage game against his crew. Considering the team was stuck until repairs to the ship were done, the captain agreed.

News spread among the docks and the Erengrad Whalers were born, and expected to die that same game. A bunch of whalers trying to take on a professional team, unheard of. News even reached the owner of the whaling company who decided to attend.

With the game set Alek primed his team. He saw it as their chance to make a name for themselves and the company, if the could hold their own or even beat the Empire team. The day came and the makeshift stadium was prepared. The company actually geve all crews in port the day off to attend. To roaring crowd the Whalers toook to the field.

The Empire team had dismissed the Whalers as a bunch of drunken sailors and didn't expect the ragtag band to be much of a threat. the Whalers won the toss and elected to receive.
