The Origins Of S.L.F


The origins of the Stiff Little Flingers are almost as colurful as the team themselves. S.L.F. began their love affair with the infamous sport of blood bowl after Beauford Briar, a retired 'fling legend looking for a place to drink and eat his way through retirement, settled in Loamsdown and built himself an inn. That inn is, of course, the now infamous The Flung Fling.

Beauford married and and soon after found himself a father of a cheeky little boy. The boy grew fast, and quickly found fascination in the tales and souvenirs of his fathers sporting past. Beauford agreed to start teaching little Bucky the skills he'd need to play. Bucky learnt fast, demonstrating freakishly good agility.

One particularly colourful training incident has gained myth like status. It seems Beauford wanted his boy to experience all the facets of a 'flings career, and lacking any treemen in town built his own giant slingshot. He launched his son clean across town and straight through the open window of the local blacksmiths. Buckminster landed calmly on both feet, skidding to a gentle stop, winked and smiled at the astonished smith then bolted out of the forge laughing gently to himself.

When asked why he had taken such a risk with his son, Beauford calmly replied "If you aint been flung, you aint a 'fling".

Word of these antics soon got around the town and steadily growing number of the towns youngsters were soon part of these training sessions. After several months it was decided the lads were ready, and word went out that Loamsdown needed treemen for a new team.

With the arrival of Slowbranch Summerpine and Bentsprig Briarclaw, the S.L.F. could finally go pro. So they packed their bags full of beer and food and headed off to find fame on the bloodsoaked and bone littered fields of bloodbowl.
