Brobdingnag is a fictional land in Jonathan Swift's satirical novel Gulliver's Travels occupied by giants. Lemuel Gulliver visits the land after the ship on which he is traveling is blown off course to an unknown land. While exploring the new country, Gulliver is abandoned by his companions and found by a farmer who is 22 meters tall (the scale of Lilliput is approximately 12:1, of Brobdingnag 1:12) who treats him as a curiosity and exhibits him for money. He is then bought by the Queen of Brobdingnag and kept as a favourite at court. In between small adventures such as fighting giant flies and being carried to the roof by a monkey, he discusses the state of Europe with the King, who is not impressed. On a trip to the seaside, his "travelling box" is seized by a giant eagle and dropped into the sea where he is picked up by sailors and returned to England. The people of Brobdingnag are described as giants who are as tall as a church and whose stride is ten yards. All of the other animals and plants are in proportion. The rats are the size of large dogs and the flies are the size of birds, for example. Fossil records are claimed to show that the ancestors of the Brobdingnagians were once even larger. The adjective Brobdingnagian has thus come to describe anything of colossal size. Led on the field by their great team captain Errukh the Enigmatic they skip, spin and step their way towards the opponents endzone with a grace that is sprung from the inherent beauty of the players inner selves. The purpose of the team is to take these already limber and lithe souls and turn them into a merciful and mercurial group of ball playing athletes. In the process of doing this, the smaller fellows of the troup will be used to pick the ball up and hand it over to the appropriate dancer.
