| The 27th Penal are an army team made up of Panzer Grenadiers from the 27th Panzer 'Penal' Battalion. The 27th Penal is a punishment Battalion consisting of criminals, political prisoners, rejected asylum seekers, and the mentally deranged. As convicted soldiers they are always given the dirtiest jobs such as mine clearance, sweeping partisans from mountains and caves, kamikazee missions behind enemy lines, suicide rearguard defensive counter-attacks, prison guard duty, and execution detail! The team was formed by coach Major Manfried Hinka in order to win a drunken wager with a Colonel of a famous Paratroop Regiment. He bet that he could train a team of squadies from his men in a fortnight and beat the Regimental BB team. Of course he won his bet. He knew straight away which men he could rely on; Lt. Ohlsen's 2nd Company. The 2nd Company are all notorious murderers and thieves. Major Hinka offered extra rations and leave passes, as well as two nights in the officers field brothel! As you can imagine from men routinely facing mortal danger as punishment for their (untried) crimes, there was no shortage of applicants to play this vicious sport. The ever resourceful private Porta pulled some strings and him and his friends from The Old Man's and Barcelona Blom's platoons were selected. Even Chief Mechanic Wolf got in on the action; he put his name down but never had any intentions of playing...he was simply going to take the benefits and bribe some poor fresh faced cadet to play in his position! Unfortunately for him the Little Legionnaire caught wind of his plan and soon Wolf found himself on the front line for the first time, the line of Scrimmage that is, he was bust down to Lineman! A suckcessful tour of the Division led to qualification for the Heer Blood Bowl Cup and a place in the Army's Premier League. Honours: 13 Heer Blood Bowl Cups (11 back to back) and 5 Army & Navy Championships. Team Colours: Black & Pink (home), Yellow & Blue (away) Team Mascots: Stalin the Cat & Boris the Brown Bear. Team Chant: "Up the 27th, we drill, we kill, we spill (blood), lockaway ya cheerleaders coz tonight were gonna thrill 'em!" Ground: The Konvikt Kage (watch out for those booby traps) Kapacity: 33,333 & 1/3 (standing, hanging and pressed into the Kage) Hall of Fame: Lt. Berndt Viktor Ohlsen [R.I.P] Lt. Ohlsen was team Captain and main playmaker; a proficient thrower (particularly of hand grenades) and catcher (of VD). He had reached the level of a Star Player when he was tragically killed; he was caught in a vicious pincer move by two Black Orcs whilst attempting to run home for a winning TD. His severed head is displayed with the team trophies and colours. He will be greatly missed. Wong & Thung [both R.I.P] The two giant Vlassov bodyguards employed by Chief Mechanic Wolf first came to play BB when their services were won by Porta in a game of (loaded) dice. Porta decided to use them to protect himself during BB games! They turned out to be natural born BB players and were magnificent defensive blockers; they had a single brain cell between them and that was tuned to kill! They where emerging stars, each with over 10 kills and 50+ KOs when they were brutally murdered in an out of match revenge killing. Legend has it they were assassinated by a family of Rat Ogres in a vendetta over the death of the youngest (a rising BB player for the Gutter River Rovers) but the killers have yet to be apprehended. The remains (not much left, as they were mostly eaten) of Wong & Thong lie buried in their favourite hunting grounds in the middle of the away side of the 27th Penal's pitch; their restless ghosts are said to haunt this zone! Coach and 'Marshall of the Field', Pvt. Sven Hassle [retired] Pvt. Sven Hassle was Field Marshall of the 69th Light Infantry Division but was busted down to private with no possibility of promotion after he lead his Division into a clear and obvious ambush by a crack Orc tank Regiment. Some say he had been on a bender for 3 weeks straight following the death of his only son to a Goblin landmine, others swear they had seen him at the officer's field brothel for 11 nights in a row and that he was fatally in love with a fat Glugsvegan by the name of Gertrude and his brain had gone temporarily to mush. Whatever the cause of his massive misjudgement, the entire Division was annihilated and he was the sole survivor (he was found in the brothel!). Sentenced for treason to mine clearance for (a very short) life, Sven sought salvation as a BB player and later, as head coach. His nerves of steel on the pitch made him the team's most regular MVP and his tactical plays quickly marked him once again as a leader of men. In time his reputation was restored and the honorary title of 'Marshall of the Field' was bestowed upon him by his teammates, the players he managed and the fans. Sven retired in glory after both his legs were eaten by an extremely hungry halflings subs bench! |
