"It was late when their coach looked over his tired warriors trudging on to the field for their first match since their inception a year before. The sun flecked their skin with dappled warm colours, but he could see they were still nervous. They didn't know who they were playing, and the benefits they knew they had from their gruelling training regime seemed miles away from this lonely quiet pitch. They didn't even have a name.

"While their coach knew that the exercises and plays they had been training with had lent his team some cohesion, he knew that Norse were not the sort to like order and discipline. They needed something wild, and he knew it.

"I remember he had this little grin on his face when they took to the field, like some private joke repeating in his head. It was only when the opposition had taken to the field and the ref was about to walk out that he took off the ridiculously large shirt he had been wearing all year; it was so large it was practically down to his knees with girth to spare for his whole family. The players had assumed that he just wanted to mark his importance to the team by taking the number 1 shirt for himself, but its true owner was just being summoned to the pitch.

"Of course the shirt was just symbolic; those things wouldn't have lasted two minutes on the field. He tossed it casually out of the dugout to the tunnel where the dirtiest, sweatiest and downright filthiest bloodbowler he had ever laid eyes on in the amateur trials was ambling up to the field.

"Throg caught the shirt, grinned at his coach, blew half a litre of snot into the rag, and then wiped his face with it. He threw it back to the coach appreciatively and strode up to the centre of the line of scrimage.

"Their coach had put his little grin on every one of his players and when he yelled 'Let me hear you then!' they replied just as he had hoped: with the most terrifying screams and yells and roars he had ever heard, fire in their blood and a manic gleam in their eye."
