This hard bitten bunch of veterans are out to clean up the Bloodbowl circuit! They have a bone to pick with the undead but above all those damn vampires! Having your homeland ravaged, your brothers brutally slain and the very foundations of your faith shattered! Can have a profound and sometimes deadly effect on any man. But even more so when those men were of the holiest order of warrior monks, the Blood Watchers... Their philosophy was born out of love for their god, "to love and cherish all life no matter what." It may seem strange that they expressed their love for their god by becoming masters of various martial and weapon skills, but when they were seen in action the beautiful if deadly motions could captivate onlookers and reduce them to tears, for the life they spent without god in their lives. So when Count Tharakmir invaded the lands surrounding the monks chapel with his legion of thousands of undead and thralls. At first the monks held to their beliefs and did nothing but provide sanctuary and healing for the citizens. Until one by one all the towns and villages had fallen to the darkness Tharakmir was spreading... The count had grown so powerful from the death and destruction he had caused that he became arrogant in a way that only a vampire could truly achieve! He brought his army to the gates of the chapel, but his hunger blinded him to the perils he could face there, he alone strode to the gates and brushed them aside with a gesture. He realised that he felt weakened in the holy place but cared not, assuming it merely a manifestation of his growing hunger. The Abbot Druss and 4 of his brothers left to confront the count, Druss urged the evil one to leave this place of god! For he was as a stain upon his land. Tharakmir did not even pause for thought as he drained the life from the group, the 4 brothers fell as did the Abbot but he alone was not slain. The count caught the scent of death, the hospital the monks had erected to treat the wounded, it was a fell promise he could not refuse. The Watchers went to their fallen brethren as the count gorged himself on the helpless. The Abbot was helped to his feet and urged the Watchers help him to the hospital. The scene that greeted them left many brothers insane and others broken with sorrow and guilt. The walls were papered with the skins of the dead and the flesh had been swallowed up by the count. The remaining 11 monks saw the dark one leer at them with unbridled lust and they knew then that their god required more of them, more than a life that preached of love! Lest they too suffer the gruesome fate before them. It was then that a burning fire was ignited in their hearts but not of hatred, it was love of life and the living! The count shuddered with the ecstasy of his hunger abating. He turned to face the newcomers. Usually drawn to fear the absence of any emanating from the monks irked him but it was the explosive fury of the mass that surged towards him that caused his only hesitation. That was all the Watchers needed. Tharakmir shattered as the Abbot embedded the butt of his staff in the counts chest and with his demise the legions were no more. So a new faith was born that day to the Watchers and they have vowed to to take that faith where ever it is needed. This day it is needed on the fields of BloodBowl! |
