<i>The town of Carlton is undoubtably the most famous of the many 'beer towns' spread throughout the Southern Waste outback. Founded in 1883, by a small band of hardy men, it all began with one brewery and a drinking hole. The waters of Carlton Creek are said to be of an unrivalled quality and as word spread of the quality froth being poured in Carlton, it was not long before the town was bussling with 'prospectors' in search of 'liquid gold'. Over 100 breweries popped up in the years that followed but only one still stands today. The oft regretted 'pissed bastard riots' of 1976, destroyed most all of the breweries that once stood in Carlton and it was feared that they were to spell the end of this well loved town. In the end, the town was saved by the single handed and heroic effort of Mr. Swan, the last remaining brewer with a livelihood left. Offering his former competitors jobs within his, now quickly expanding, brewery, he unified the town and its beers under one banner.
