The Argyle Asskickers

The Highlander people were one of the last few human nations conquered by the empire after centuries of resistance and warfare. The Highland nation had ferociously defended itself, until finally weakened by violent inter-clan warfare and the overwhelming numbers of the Empire, were finally forced into submission. In the century since they have been incorporated into the Empire the Highlanders have not assimilated at all and are notoriously morose and unfriendly to those they see as oppressors.

The Church of Nuffle

When the forces of the Empire finally conquered the Highlanders, the proud people out rightly refused to convert to the worship of Sigmar or Ulric. Missionaries from the two faiths began mysteriously disappearing at an alarming rate, and soon none would set foot in the area. In addition the Highlanders abandoned the worship of their own gods, under the reasoning that if they couldn’t protect them from the Empire, they weren’t worth worshiping. For several years the Highland people drifted without a religious focus. And then one day, a young Highlander named Alban MacAsskicker, working as a caravan guard in the Empire, came across a game of Blood Bowl. He was hooked and brought other highlanders to watch the spectacle. Soon Highlanders were playing Bloodbowl, and stadium Temples to Nuffle were raised across the region. A priesthood of Nuffle was formed. Each Clan had its own team and the best from those teams were recruited to play in the township teams. The best of the township teams were recruited to play for the Argyle Asskickers, the team of now legendary Blitzer Alban MacAsskicker.

The Asskickers Today

In the century since the introduction of Bloodbowl and the worship of Nuffle to the Highland region, the Argyle Asskickers have become a symbol of defiance and anti-Empire sentiment. Before each game the team is blessed by a priest of Nuffle carrying the holy relic of the skull of St. Alban, still sporting it’s gleaming silver plate. Under the worthy leadership of current team captain Mad Jock MacBlock, the team is feared across the Empire.
