The small town of Ornheim, nestled very near the borders with the forests in which the Wood Elves dwell, is home to a very small clique of entreprenurial halflings. They emigrated from the Moot within the past few hundred years, trying to find a grove of trees that contained what they believed to be a sampling of fruits that had never before been seen, or more importantly, tasted. After relentless searching they finally found the grove, and built a settlement very nearby, although they were very respectful of their balance with nature. They immediately began harvesting the fruit, as well as saving the seeds. Upon tasting it, all of the prospective halflings concurred that they had uncovered a gold mine of taste. In no time at all they began exporting the fruits (as well as several variations on each in the form of pastries and baked goods) to the rich elector counts of the Empire as well as the courts of nobles in Ulthuan and Brettonia. Today, they continue to operate their trade, and remain the unchallenged moguls of rare and delicious delicacies thorughout the Old World. As far as the inspiration to put a Blood Bowl team together, well, that remains a mystery to many. It seems to the naive eye that for such prosperous and yet small people, fielding a halfling team is such a foolhearty and colossal waste of money. However, the Orchardites (from what the few head caretakers of the orchards there are called: they have an almost priest-like status in society) have their reasons. The first is for advertising: the Nuffle Amorical Football commision continued to refuse to promote and display their ads, saying that they had too little connection to the sport; with a team directly involved, the NAF couldn't possibly say no. Well... more like they could have, but didn't; they must have been too busy laughing at the prospect of pastry-making halflings playing the most violent popular sport known to the Old World. Also, they hope to achieve direct sales by bringing along their master baker; while he is not busy coaching the players, he is working up the crowd's appetite for fine pastries. An amusing sidenote: most of the halflings of Ornheim detest the very thought of Blood Bowl; huge, bloodthirsty and sweaty beasts that charge in blind rages towards each other's jugular veins is, perhaps rightfully, seen as sub-primitive: even the most inhuman beasts in the northern wastes and the realms of chaos exert SOME coherence now and then...
