Team ‘Golden Corral’ is a bit of an anomaly within the Fumble league, if for no other reason than their formation was nothing short of divine providence.

Coach Tovarishch, a retired cook who served with the Russian Navy for most of his life, retired in Big Meat, Texas… and invested most of his retirement earnings in the single buffet-style restaurant in town – a brand new Golden Corral. The eatery proved to be a big hit with the locals, until the crown gem of the restaurant, a fountain in the likeness of a full grown longhorn steer, was found to be harboring a rather large colony of Legionella pneumophila. The discovery of this wretched bacterial hive was made only hours after the authorities had found over 30 dead patrons and employees inside the dining hall… all of which had expired due to an acute case of Legionnaire’s Disease.

To add an unfortunate twist to this already sad tale… the restaurant had been chosen as the location for the 12th annual Nick-At-Night Classic TV Awards ceremony, which was to be hosted by none other than the cast of ‘The A-Team’ and ‘The Andy Griffith Show’. Among the dead were several of the cast members. Others reported to have been in attendence are still unaccounted for. The BMPD has made no comment on the pending investigation of the missing persons.

So Team Golden Corral came to be. However, despite their rather lackluster break into the Fumble league the team remains optimistic. Hannibal and Barney Fife have even expressed interest in touching base with some of their missing cast members.

‘If we can get Andy and Gomer on board I think we’ll have a shot’, Barney’s translator explained (Barney’s English has deteriorated since his exhumation). ‘And with Aunt Bee hauling as much freight as she does… she’d make a fine, fine linesman.’
