Angel consults the Oracles. Angel & Buffy rekindle the romance. Cordelia bemoans her unemployment. Angel goes to kill the demon by himself, but Cordy lets the secret slip, and Buffy shows up in time to save him. Angel asks the Oracles to take back his mortality. Angel tells Buffy about his decision; the clock strikes and he turns into a pumpkin. um, wait, no... time skips back and no one except Angel remembers that he was human for a day.

WESLEY: Angel, while it's certainly true that these lawyers brought this on themselves - what you did is...

CORDELIA: ...is wrong.

GUNN: You went too far.

WESLEY: (after a moment) We've all been worried about you, and I guess it's fair to say we all share some of the blame. - We should have spoken up sooner.

GUNN: And louder.

CORDELIA: You have to change the way you've been doing things. - Don't you see where this is taking you?

WESLEY: Listen to her! Right now the three of us are all that's standing between you and real darkness.

GUNN: Best believe that, man.

<b>Plot Highlights:</b>

Wolfram & Hart prepares for a review by the Senior Partners; Angel looks for a magical way to crash the party and attack the Partners themselves at their source; meanwhile Darla hides with Lindsey, Wesley's girlfriend leaves him, Kate is suspended and contemplates suicide, and Cordelia is lured into an ambush. Angel attacks Wolfram & Hart, but is told that the Earth itself is part of Hell and he can't win against them, since they are part of the world. In despair, he meets Darla and sleeps with her - risking the loss of his soul.

HOLLAND: Yes, the apocalypse, of course. - Another one of those. Well, it's true. We do have one scheduled. And I imagine if you were to prevent it you would save a great many people. Well, you should do that then. Absolutely. I wasn't thinking. Of course all those people you save from that apocalypse would then have the next one to look forward to, but, hey, it's always something, isn't it?

ANGEL: You're not gonna win.

HOLLAND: Well - *no*. Of course we aren't. We have no intention of doing anything so prosaic as 'winning.'

ANGEL: Then why?

HOLLAND: Hmm? I'm sorry? Why what?

ANGEL: Why fight?

HOLLAND: That's really the question you should be asking yourself, isn't it? See, for us, there is no fight. Which is why winning doesn't enter into it. We - go on - no matter what. Our firm has always been here. In one form or another. The Inquisition. The Khmer Rouge. We were there when the very first cave man clubbed his neighbor. See, we're in the hearts and minds of every single living being. And *that* - friend - is what's making things so difficult for you. See, the world doesn't work in spite of evil, Angel. It works with us. It works because of us.

DARLA: But that - that *cheerleader* did? We were together 150 years! We shared *everything*. You're saying - never?

ANGEL: You couldn't understand.

DARLA: I understand alright. Guy gets taste of something fresh and he thinks he's touching god.

ANGEL: It wasn't about...

DARLA: Oh, you bet your ass it was! There was a time, in the early years, when you would have said I was the *definition* of bliss! Buffy wasn't happiness. She was just new.

ANGEL: (laughing) You know - you're getting awfully bent over this, Darla. I couldn't feel that with *you*, because I didn't have a soul. But then I got a second chance. Just like you have.

DARLA: What a poster child for soulfulness you are. (Walks up and presses herself against him) This is no life, Angel! Before you got neutered you weren't just any vampire, you were a legend! Nobody could keep up with you, not even me. You don't learn that kind of darkness. It's innate. It was in you before we ever met. You said you can smell me? Well, I can smell you, too. And my boy is still in there and he wants out!

(Angel lets go of her and throws himself back away from her cross)

After Darla sacrifices herself to save her baby, Angel takes the newborn back to the hotel where he tries to figure out how to be a good father. But Angel and the gang's problems multiply when they are trapped at the hotel by several groups of enemies, including vampire cults, demon cults and satanic humans, bent on kidnapping his infant son. After brushing off Sahjhan, Holtz goes about Los Angeles recruiting new help for his quest to kill Angel by hiring humans whose families where also victims of vampires, starting with one bitter, working-class woman, named Justine Cooper, as his right hand person and recruiter.
