D-A-D is a Danish rock band previously known as
Disneyland After Dark, a name that had to be changed after
a threatening lawsuit from The Walt Disney Company. Their
style of music is often categorized as melodic heavy rock.
They have also used the names D.A.D., D•A•D and D:A:D, each
name represents a period in the band's history.

In the early 1980s in Copenhagen, Denmark, D-A-D started
playing together under their original name Disneyland After Dark.
Stig came up with the name based on the idea that when the lights
are out in Disneyland, anything can happen. He thought the name
reflected their music. The first lineup of D-A-D consisted of
Jesper, Stig, Peter and Stig’s girlfriend, Lene Glumer. The band's
debut concert was at the youth club Sundby Algaard. In December
1982 they forced Lene Glumer to leave the band, as she did not
fit in, according to their opinion. The three of them kept playing
together and on March 3. 1984 Jespers younger brother, Jacob
joined the band at a concert at Musikcaféen in Copenhagen. They
all liked the idea of him playing in the band and little by little he
became a member of D-A-D.

The band wanted to make a record, so they began recording demo
tapes in their practice room. A friend of the band owned a record
store, and helped them find contacts in the music business. John
Rosing from the management bureau "Rock On" heard about
Disneyland After Dark. He sought out the band in 1984, and
became their booker. He took full management of the band until
a year before he died of cancer in 1998.

The band released their first album, Call of the Wild in 1986.

The group made their international breakthrough in 1989 with the
record No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims, which was released on the
band's 5th birthday. The album became the band's greatest
success, and also gave the band a million dollar contract with
Warner Bros.. The band was poised for great success in the
United States, but the breakthrough didn't happen. The band
achieved some airplay with the single Sleeping My Day Away, but
in the end, the band gave up on the chance of making it big in the
US, and concentrated on the European market.

The current lineup is Jesper Binzer, Jacob Binzer, Stig Pedersen and
Laust Sonne.

History

In the spring of 1991, Eistrup, Tunebjerg and Techau formed a heavy blues
band under the name "Nirvana" at Kastanievejens Efterskole (a boarding
school) in Frederiksberg, Denmark. Shortly after they started performing
Thursday nights at Ordrup Gymnasium (a local high school).

When the American band Nirvana started to gain success, they changed their
name to "Kashmir", after the Led Zeppelin song.

In 1993, they finished second in "DM i Rock", a national amateur concert
contest, behind Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and subsequently became popular in
Denmark.[citation needed]

In 2000, the band won six Danish Music Awards: 'Best Danish Band', 'Best
Danish Album', 'Best Danish Songwriter', and 'Best Danish Rock Album' for
The Good Life; and 'Best Danish Producer' and 'Best Danish Music Video' for
"Mom in Love, Daddy in Space". [1]

In 2001, Lindstrand joined the band's lineup.

In 2004, the band won four Danish Music Awards for 'Best Danish Band',
'Best Danish Rock Album' for Zitilites, 'Best Danish Music Video' for "Rocket
Brothers" and 'Best Album Cover' for Zitilites. [1]

Their latest album No Balance Palace (2005) features Lou Reed reciting a
poem by Eistrup on "Black Building" and David Bowie who sings a duet with
Eistrup on "The Cynic". Furthermore the album was produced by Tony
Visconti.

Pretty Maids is a Heavy Metal/Hard Rock (called Hard'n'Heavy) band
formed in Horsens, Denmark, by Ronnie Atkins and Ken Hammer in
1981. Their sound can be defined as something between Europe
and Running Wild.

Over the years Pretty Maids have sold hundreds of thousands of
records, but have never broken through in a major way, except locally
in Japan during the 90s. They have supported such well known acts
as Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Saxon,
and were also featured at the 1987 German version of Monsters of
Rock where Metallica headlined along with Deep Purple.

As of 2009 Pretty Maids are still active, and their latest album - Wake
Up To The Real World - was released through Frontiers Records on
November 10, 2006. The band have been touring their primary
markets of Denmark, Sweden and Germany every year since the
release of the latest record.</div>

Volbeat is a Danish rock band formed in Copenhagen in 2001.
They play a fusion of early rock 'n' roll, heavy metal and rockabilly.[citation
needed] They are inspired by the rock 'n' roll legends Elvis Presley and
Johnny Cash.[citation needed] Their line-up consists of vocalist and guitarist
Michael Poulsen, guitarist Thomas Bredahl, bassist Anders Kjølholm and
drummer Jon Larsen. The band is signed to Dutch label Mascot Records and
has released three studio albums and one DVD. All of their studio albums
were certified gold in Denmark. Their second album Rock the Rebel/Metal the
Devil received platinum. Their band name is taken from the album Vol. Beat
by Michael Poulsen's former band Dominus. "Vol" stands for volume while
"Beat" stands for rhythm.

Volbeat was formed in 2001 after frontman Michael Poulsen split up his
former band, Dominus.

Critics have generally been positive towards The Strength / The Sound / The
Songs. The German hard rock magazine RockHard gave it 10/10 in a
review.[1]

Volbeat is also praised for its live performances. Their concert at Roskilde
Festival 2006 received a 6/6 stars review in the Danish newspaper BT.[2]

In week 8 of 2007, the record Rock The Rebel / Metal The Devil debuted as #1
in the Danish Top 40 for CD-sales and at the same time The Strength / The
Sound / The Songs re-entered the chart at #21. Recently, the album achieved
gold status for sales in Denmark.[citation needed]

Volbeat opened the Roskilde Festival in 2007. Volbeat also supported
Metallica together with Mnemic at their concert on Denmark July 13 of that
year. They were to support Megadeth in Finland and in their home town,
Copenhagen, and to make a few festival appearances for the summer 2008.

Volbeat's album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood (2008) topped the Finnish
Album Chart straight after its publication.[citation needed]

Volbeat will support the popular Symphonic Metal band Nightwish on their
U.S tour in May 2009.[1]</div>
