Lizards tactica

Well, I want to write some stuff concerning slightly less well known stuff with Lizards, especially concerning Saurus scoring.

Basically, there are 2 ways of scoring with a Saurus.
Either you pick up the ball with a Saurus and cage yourself downfield, or you get a Saurus downfield and hand off to him.

Lets start with the first idea, picking up with the Saurus and caging downfield.

The first obstacle is the actual pickup. In general, against AG3 have one Skink close to the ball while picking up, against AG4 have at least 2. You should position the Skinks in a way that also creates a bit of a premade Cage for the Saurus.

The cage phase itself will be at its most vulnerable while you are trying to connect you ball carriering Saurus with the rest of your team. Do so ASAP.
Against a Saurus Cage, opponents can do 2 things.
A) Try to lay a web around you, Blitz a Skink each turn
B) Go directly at the cage, and Get as many annoying players as possible next to the Saurus.

Concerning A) A Saurus is not that different from a normal linemen. Make your way forward, and eventually Blitz yourself to glory and TD.
B) is much more interesting. The main goal of most foes will be to get some Diving Tackle next to the Saurus, making dodgin away difficult to impossible.

In general, a situation like:

S E
E
S

S= Saurus, E= Elf can often be solved well by a little chainpush.

Use a Skink to turn the above situation into

S E
Si E
S
And Blitz from right-above the top Elf, hopefull knock him down and push the other Elf away from your Saurus.
Even if you only get a push, the other Saurus or even the Skink can block the annoying guy away.

Another situation that may come up is:

S S
S
S E S

E is an Elf with Blodge, Sidestep and diving tackle.

In order to remove him from you Ball carrier, you have to occupy the tackle zones of your Ball carrier he could reach with another player.
I have specced a fair number of games where Lizards lost their touchdowns due to not doing this.

The second idea is a bit more tricky and depends more on the situation, on that I will write tomorow.

With stunty it makes to pushing sidestepping-dt'ers out of the way a bit easier, if you have to. but with BT you will be dodging on a 4+ anyway (hopefully with a reroll) and I just love giving my +st saurus the ball for this reason (3+).

I've always felt scoring in this way is a bit overrated, there is a time and a place but a lot of coaches do it all the time because they're attracted to the spp's.

Good post though, the more lizzy discussion the better!

PS. Anyone reading this might be interested in my blog all about lizardmen skills, I go into the idea of a 'scoring saurus' a bit more.

considering the amount of tactical discussion in blogs, i feel imho that this blog should be higher rated. i guess there are ppl who are too cool for school here.
