New Game: Dreadball
Hidden away in the off-topic section, check it out:

https://fumbbl.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=22302

I doubt many people here want it to replace blood bowl but maybe it could be a cool alternative and also offer a quicker game although board games do have a worrying ability to last much longer than it says on the box.

Actual company support for the game might also be nice. :)

Haven't pledged yet but I am strongly contemplating it.

I'm seriously considering buying the Striker level even if I don't get time to sit and play board games much. Cool models, lots of teams with that package.

sadly i agree with pythrr here, it looks similar enough that someone's bound to try to get the law involved
Posted by harvestmouse on 2012-09-12 10:42:45
Similar enough to what? You realise there are 4 or 5 other fantasy ball board games out there, other than BB?
Posted by Ranensol on 2012-09-12 10:58:56
Re-posted this comment as i don't think i was being clear enough.

@harvestmouse, What the hell else am i going to be comparing it to when the post has been made on a BB related site?

There are 2 reasons why i play BB, 1) Nostalgia for my pre-teen days playing BB in the late 80's, 2) because it's on PC.
So no i didn't realise that there were other fantasy ball board games out there because it's not something i have any interest or involvement in, i was merely looking at the posted game (which admitedly looks quite cool) and comparing it to BB.
The only time i get a board game out is to play something like Snakes & Ladders or Monopoly with my 2 daughters.

Have you seen the rules? a guy in my table top league has and they are awefull, also the makers of that game are known for awefull rules.
Posted by Garion on 2012-09-12 11:17:10
personally dont like the look of this. dont like laying on hexes, squares are just better you get more directions to choose an d hexes you cant move in straight lines.

Also dont like the style or the board tbh. So the rules had better be amazing to make up for all that.

The mechanics of the game are truly very different. I think it escapes on that front. Going sci-fi over fantasy should help a bit as well. However: putting orcs and humans in the starting box might have not been the best idea ever.

Re Ranensol

I don't know, that's why I asked. It's far more similar to some of the other games out there, than BB.

As for what board games you are aware of and played, again my lack mind reading capabilities let me down.

However the fact (at least when I joined) you needed a copy of the game to legally do so, I feel I maybe forgiven for presuming you at least had and have and played a copy of the modern BB game.
Posted by Ranensol on 2012-09-12 12:02:08
No mind reading capabilities needed harvestmouse, just simple deduction.

I have an old battered copy of BB, but i wasn't aware that the rules required it to be a 'modern' version.
Whether i own or play BB or not has nothing to do with knowing about these 4-5 other games you seem to think i should know about either :)

Sorry Overhamsteren for hi-jacking your blog btw, was only intending to give my opinion, not have yet another run in with the local troll.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2012-09-12 12:54:28
I'm the local troll..........I never knew that, interesting.

Actually I'm not sure you have to own a copy of BB anymore, as BB (as a term) has been eradicated from the site, due to GWs IP. Therefore it's a Fantasy Football site. However, I do think that most people come here via the board/tabletop game/s.

My point was; clarify who was going to do the suing, seeing that this game is more similar to other fantasy football games, than BB.

Also that there are far more similar fantasy football games to BB that are existing without getting sued, so why can't this one?

The fact you hadn't done your homework before commenting and presumed I would deduce that, isn't my fault. Nor is the fact that you decided to get on your uppity horse, when I queried that out, and hijacked Overhamsteren's thread.

On topic: you can see my original point (where I mention the existence of the next biggest tabletop fantasy football game) in the thread linked above. I don't think I'd touch this, at least until we see how good it is, compared to the competition. Components look cool though and has a nice feel.

Troll? it seems that way yes, i've made maybe a handful of blog posts since joining, and you've been rude in 2 of them so far.

I've also seen a lot of posts on the forums where you've been rude or unnecessarily direct with other members (both new and old), so yes i think i'm justified in calling you that.

I can only assume your attitude is due to the wonderful shield that is the internet, as your profile picture appears to show you with most of your teeth still in your mouth, so you must be able to interact with other people in real life with at least a modicum of civility (either that or you don't interact with other people i suppose...).
Posted by Ranensol on 2012-09-12 13:39:29
That's all from me on this anyway, i'll leave Overhamsteren blog alone as i should have done after posting my initial opinion.

WHAT HELL>?

HM is not "local troll"!!!!!

Posted by Overhamsteren on 2012-09-12 16:20:40
Heh discussions like that are pretty much unavoidable I guess :P
Posted by harvestmouse on 2012-09-12 17:43:07
Your gross over reaction is intriguing. Certainly you have a personal problem with me, either from another blog or maybe something else?? I admit, I can be on the terse side at times, however if you're going to make statements that to be frank, are pulled out of somewhere not very pleasant, I'm going to point that out to you.

Each of your posts has been more and more aggressive, from what I said originally:

'Similar enough to what? You realise there are 4 or 5 other fantasy ball board games out there, other than BB?'

Was that worthy of throwing around insults, threatening behaviour and allusions to my social life or lack of? None of which I have done, shall I presume being proved wrong brings out the aggressive side in you?

Description of a troll

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

I asked a question regarding your comment. AFAIK it was on topic 'I.e. the chances of Dreadball, becoming reality'. If it wasn't, then your post was off topic and I would be the 'Counter Troll'. Also it was never my intention or prediction to provoke such an emotional response.

On top of this you have upset Pythrr, which isn't a nice thing to do at all, considering all the hard work he puts in.

You back up your claim by saying I'm rude or unnecessary direct. According the urban dictionary, neither are necessarily the call signs of the forum troll. In fact being unnecessarily direct is the exact opposite. Yes I admit I can be rude, and if wasn't warranted I feel guilt and beat myself up about it. However direct rudeness is generally regarding one of my pet hate subjects; break tackle, RNG, petty cash, false claims about lrb 4 or one of the clients, general disparaging of league or unacceptably selfish behaviour. As for unnecessarily direct, trust me that's impossible. The more direct and clear about things you are, the better for everyone.

As for your last paragraph I think I have been the more civil of the 2 of us. Ok I'm like a dog with a bone, I can't let go, but I haven't resulted to direct insults. Your last sentence you do not want to do again. That's could be interpreted as an indirect threat, I'll interpret that it wasn't.

Am I the only one here who's actually played Monsters of the Midway? IIRC, it's the orginal fantasy football. BB is hardly groundbreaking.

Nope never did.
