Rat Dynasty Banned from UI
I'm a cheater. Nobody is more surprised than I am.

Given that I had lost two positionals in the preliminary round, I wanted to make the most of my three builder games leading up to the finals. My team was sitting at 1580tv. I didn't even have enough money to buy a rookie blitzer to replace the one that died in the final game. So, I did what I assume pretty much anyone would do. I found two games against the weakest competition I could find, and tried my best to get the team back into shape. It worked.

My rookie gutter runner skilled up twice, and I took block and sidestep. I earned enough money to buy a new blitzer... and best of all my star player hit 76spp and rolled an 11. A 6AG gutter runner. It wasn't going to replace the players I lost, but hey... I had a chance.

Unfortunately, today I learned that I have been banned from all new official tournaments for a period of one month. This includes participation in the Ulthian Invitational finals. One of the opponents I defeated in the first round, who also happens to be a site administrator, decided to bring my choice of opponents to the attention of Purplechest. The games were "against lesser competition, and against the spirit of the rules".

It's disappointing that I won't be able to compete in the finals. It would have been good to settle things on the pitch. That's not going to happen now, and I can accept that. But there's a lesson to be learned, and that's if you are fortunate enough to qualify, don't give them any excuse to find a reason to disqualify you. Don't play your builder games, and if you do, make sure you play the newscasters or a 5 mighty blow orc team. That way you won't be a cheater like me.

Or don't play site administrators.

Or don't play the same coach twice in a row for your recovery games, or seek out a coach over 40 CR below you...

Play Box, there is no builder games up there. Stop the cherry picking! It's called Bloodbowl.

I don't get it. So what about all opponents/teams played before the tournament started that may have been against 'less quality opponents and not with the spirit of the rules (/competition)'? Are those ok if not in-between an on-going tourney?

I frown on the picking although understand why you would do so going into such a prestigious event like the UI. The penalty seems quite harsh. A warning and some punishment on the field would have been just imo.

yup, specifically says you can't play the same person twice, nor can you play him within a a few games. regardless of who it is, that's against site rules.

Actually, it's ten games. And there were at least nine other games played in between. No rules of ranked were broken. Period.

Pentalarc ran in 3 touch downs in the first game against a legend ranked coach? What a naughty cherry!

Its funny how they react with a Steel Hammer on this, when there is so much Min/Maxing abuse going on out there. Double Standards?

I'd bet money that same Moderator who brought this to light, is the same guy who verbally (types) abuses most coaches he plays. I have sent messages years ago and made them aware of the excessive abuse, but nothing happens. His name begins with an L and ends with an asshole. Another Double Standard.

The Mods do a thankless job and do that job very well. There must be a bigger story behind this. Have you been warned in the past?

telling half the story and playing the victim ftw!!!!! \o/

Ah yes, nice to see you left the part out where you asked an admin for advise and totally ignored him and still played back to back games vs the same coach. Awesome!

If you decide to make a blog about some thing, at least tell the whole story.

On Fumbbl you don't beat the system, the system beats you.

let's also leave out the fact that it wasn't kryten that brought it up, it was another coach...

Bah, who raised this zombie from the depths?

id be in favour of adding a clear ruling to the official tournament rules to disallow playing the same opponent twice in these builder matches.
Posted by Woodstock on 2013-03-31 11:20:54
Or people should just listen to the admins and read the rules, so much easier...
Posted by lizvis on 2013-03-31 11:50:02
i thought about volunteering to write a more clear version of that particular rule. as i started thinking about how i would word it, i realized, its almost impossible to write that rule to cover every single contingency. i also realized that the rule is worded in such a way that allows you to fill in the blanks with common sense. also, the bottom line is, if you're uncertain, just ask. there's no limitation to questions that you can ask the fumbbl admins last i checked.

I'm a complete novice, but two back-to-back games against the same 127 CR coach looks fishy as a fish stick to me.

Sounds like you did in fact make some very beardy decisions mate.
Weakest competition is one thing (I played gobbos for my UI prep game) but playing the same guy twice (even with other games with other teams in between), I can see why the admins would intervene there.
