Getting better through getting meta?
So I won my first major game today, and it was also the first time I've ever stalled for more than one turn. I still dislike stalling in general, but I really wanted to win. And meh, so I'm an occasional hypocrite. Everybody is, no big deal.

Anyway, next round I'm up against Purplegoo. My New Crobuzon Nobblers vs his Sprite Crusaders.

I'm at 2110 TV currently, he's at 1880 with a skill to roll on a rookie lino, so he'll be at 1900-1930, depending on the roll. As things stand then, I'm looking at 180-210k in inducaments, with 210/200 the most likely result.

My question to you: I've got 13 players. If I fire a rookie rotter, I can reduce the inducements to 140-170k. My usual tactic would be not to; just go in with 13 players, helping to allow for KOs/injuries. But changing my tactics helped win this round, so should I here? Fire, keep? And why?

And yes, I'm aware that regardless (and given reasonable dice on each side), I'm still likely to just be outplayed.

From someone who got outplayed by the Goo in the last major... yup.

:)

Have fun, though! Make a mark on him!!

Yup I'd bin a rotter, unless you plan on fouling alot initially, so can afford to lose a player (or TWO) to the ref...hint hint :)

id consider getting rid of the block DP rotter. he is worth 80k and would bring you below the wizzard barrier, what i hate especially in knockout games. also you avoid eldril as a star, who is a gamechanger.

you would most likely end up facing 2 babes, what is a major improovement over the wizzard.

Well, the game is set for next Saturday, so I've a while to decide. But I doubt I'll ditch the Block/DP Rotter. A 0 SPP rookie is one thing, but firing a guy with useful skills is too much of a step away from my usual style.

Slow bashy races like Nurgle cannot be competitive without stalling, and not stalling is very dangerous for anyone playing against something elfy.

The main (competitive) reason not to stall (when you safely can) is if you're an elfy team with plenty of players left, and you give your opponent a small chance at a 2TTD or 3TTD while you think your chance of stealing and scoring again are better.

The other reason would be because you can make the 2-0 and turn the game into a bigger source of SPPs.

As for your current situation: You are facing 3x AG5 dark elves with a wizard. You are relatively low bash for Nurgle, so even with that beastly beast of yours, you can't expect to easily smash him off the pitch. If you don't trim enough to get below the wizard line, I expect you to lose. As thing stand, you're 80k over the wizard line, and I would assume he goes up by 20k. So I wouldn't fire a 40k player just for the chance of him rolling +ST. I think you should lower your TV, and lower it by 70k so that goo either has to trim his own TV or forego the wizard.

Gratz for team and results/achievements so far!

Sage made an excellent analysis and that's an advice I'd go with... even if I'd be sore&sad in retiring one of those grown up guys.

When the match'll be held in sat? If I'm around, I'd like to spec (else I'll see in replay mode)

Ta for the advice and well wishes. Game's due at 10:00 am bbtime. OK, I think I'm persuaded; I was thinking the rookie rotter would avoid Eldril, but a wizard definitely would be a bad thing too.

So then the question is, to lose 80k do I ditch the Block/DP guy, who is also only 3 SPP short of another skill (probably Kick), or the 2 rotters with 0 SPP? In the latter case I'd be down to 11 players and relying on no cas/regen working.
